I mean I just tend to always like the loud yelling ones in shonen so I just gravitated toward him. I think Todoroki is boring, Deku is sweet but pretty one-note and every time his story is put on hold I lose interest, and none of the other kids in the class are developed in a way I'm interested by.

And at least Bakugo isn't a sexist pervert so that's a plus.

I appreciate that Bakugou is learning and growing and becoming a less terrible person over time, but still: my first impression of him was him telling Izuku to kill himself. I am never going to like Bakugou.

because i like asshole characters, especially the spiky explodey (personality wise) types. and he's cool and well rounded
i doubt it's that deep people just like fun characters and sometimes those fun characters are bad people. hardly a new phenomenon

Part of the appeal I've seen with ppl is that Bakugo is a Big Fish in a Small Pond suddenly elevated to a Big Pond where he's not really the Big Fish anymore. He's still impressive, but what made him respected and acknowledged in middle school doesn't work in high school, so he amps up the asshole to compensate for this realization.

Also, no one pretends his assholishness is acceptable, which is a big improvement over how characters like Sasuke Uchiha's awfulness got glossed over constantly.

Pretty much this. He went from King of Bullies to a school where people all were like "not cool man." Makes him more like s yapping pomeranian

I think people like him BECAUSE he's an asshole. He's got a massive ego and he yells at everyone, but we're slowly seeing him start to become LESS of an asshole as time goes on and start to care about other people and be a decent human being. Like a tiny puppy that barks but then also wants to be hugged.

I like that he never engages with Mineta's gross bullshit like half the other boys in the class and that during his fight with Uraraka, he was the only one in the whole arena who was taking her seriously.

I dunno, I don't feel like he was taking her seriously out of respect. More like he wants to kick everyone's ass. Even if it were someone weaker than him. He strikes me as that kind of jerk.

I mean, fair, I didn't say anything about respect. But she WASN'T weaker than him, that was the point. Everyone else thought he was being way too violent in that fight but they missed the fact that she came very close to kickig HIS are and he knew it.

I normally love loud, cocky, overconfident rival characters but from what I've heard of Bakugou, he's the main reason I won't get into BNHA, mostly because hearing about how he treated Deku brings up bad memories of being bullied in school by people I thought were my friends

My opinion on Bakugou fans is as long as they acknowledge that he's an asshole that other watchers might not like instead of going 'He's an angel who can do no wrong and you're just not giving him a chance!!!", then you do you, but he's just not my cup a tea

People like asshole characters for some reason. Ironic how nobody can stand people like that in real life and so much fandom gets butthurt and anxiety from every minor inconvenience but they still flock to characters like this.

I am very saddened that no one has mentioned how cute Bakugou is yet. I'm not at all surprised that the hotheaded rival character is so popular.
