I have no opinion on the comic but I have a friend who suffers from severe emetophobia to the point that when I first became her friend when we were 17, she hadn't been physically sick since she was 3 and she made it to 35 before she was again. So I just wanted to say...I know it's rough, even the thought of being sick could make my friend have a panic attack so I had to try really hard not to mention even vague details if I had a stomach bug or too much to drink.

I'll be honest, I'm confused about the how this links to the comics?

I second your confusion. Maybe the OP meant that the comics were so bad, in their opinion, that it make them threw up in their mouth ? If it's that I have to wonder what they find so atrocious about them. But I don't know how well they translate because there's a lot of play on words in the original text.

Propably that they aren't animu bishie enough

Considering they used this particular Asterix cover for the secret image, it's far more probable they're a fan of Asterix and hate that specific book.

I was'nt being completely serious.

Nor was I completely sure it was an actual fandomsecret or a troll\just for fun one.

But yes, that makes sense.

Wasn't that story the one with the aliens, which even long-term fans pretend doesn't exist because it was so bad?

They pretty much universally agreed to be brilliantly translated into English. Anthea Bell was one of the best translators out there, and she was superb at word play.

Maybe it's that volume? All the Uderzo-only ones were pretty poor, but I seem to remember that one being particularly disliked.

Yeah, it's that specific book that has a great infamy. While Uderzo books already had poor writing, it was this one that was near-universally reviled. Even worse than Asterix and the Secret Weapon, in which Uderzo ridiculed feminism.

Uderzo, at the time, wanted to understand animanga, bought a random manga that was actually a perverted doujin with tentacles and all, so it only made him hate the genre even more, which prompted him to write the book, as he believed manga style was polluting European comic styles.

The newest books did improve in writing quality. Not Goschinni's quality, but they are a big leap over Uderzo's writing.

I mean, don't get me wrong. Uderzo was a great artist, and he was one of the fathers of Asterix and Obelix. But he didn't have anywhere near the levels of wit and comedy that Goschinni had, and as cynical as this sounds, perhaps it was for the best to actually sell the rights to Asterix to another company.

The only one of the post-Uderzo comics I've read is "Asterix and the Picts," which I read translated into Scots, and I thought it was pretty decent. Maybe I should give the others a go....

I haven't read these comics/am not the OP, but I figured they must have used this phrase somewhere in them?

(Anonymous) 2019-11-09 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Technically, it doesn't always have to be literal. I've seen it used to describe things that gross a person out. If that makes you feel any better?
