Whether or not long-dead authors would find porn empowering seems like it's mostly of pure historical interest, and I think the more important question is how we ourselves should feel about it. Certainly from a feminist point of view.

I guess they're hanging out in other types of fandom places, 'cause i've literally seen no one discussing it except for this secret.
And really - consider the Marquis de Sade and Madam Bovary and all the 'naughty' pictures and plays and books that have been around since....forever. It's just weird to imagine *no one* before modern times would like porn.
