His firing was, in his words, chilling, and he's 100% right about that. Out of context tweets shouldn't make or break someone's career. That's dystopian-level thought-policing and people defend it under the guise of moral purity.

I hadn't read these books yet, but I've been meaning to, and this secret gives me the push to go to the bookstore and get it done. Thank you, OP. I know the one extra sale isn't likely to change anything, but it's all I can do.

What did he actually tweet? I'm not familiar

The long and short of it is: he wasn't nice. He was absolutely vulgar and brash, angry at the state of politics in this country right now. It was after Kavanaugh's appointment that he really got the shaft, for tweeting this, among other anti-Trump sentiments:

And people defended his firing, because he wasn't nice. It still boils my blood.

OP of the secret (thank you secret maker!)

Exactly. I would have understood if he had trashed parts of Star Wars, the actors, George Lucas or Disney itself in any way but... he didn't. He just voiced his opinion about something unrelated in a non-nice way and it's just so chilling.

This. Not only was Wendig absolutely right, but even if he weren't... FFS, they knew who they hired, right? Wendig didn't make a secret of his politics OR his foul language. They knew who they hired, and to fire him for speaking his mind over that was extreme cowardice.

Exactly. If they had an issue with having someone write for them who curses a lot on Twitter, then they shouldn't have hired him in the first place.

I liked them a lot, fwiw. I liked it enough to then go and buy a number of his original works, which I also like (though I avoided the horror because it's not my thing. But his "corn punk" trilogy is cool).

And yes, it was chilling. (I'm kind of surprised this is a secret, but then while I like SW a lot, I don't hang out in fandom spaces).

He was fired for that, but honestly, he should have been fired for that shitty writing.
