(Anonymous) 2019-11-22 01:27 am (UTC)(link)I made the mistake of telling my parents about the procedure. Their question, every day after the first week, has been "are you back to work yet?" They know the recovery timeline I was given, but they've decided I'm malingering because I'm following my doctor's directions for recovery.
(And no, right-to-work legislation isn't a thing in my area, it's illegal for employers to fire people for a doctor-supported medical condition, and I'm in a strong union that would eat them alive if they tried to stealth-fire with a semiplausible excuse.)

(Anonymous) 2019-11-22 04:19 am (UTC)(link)But it still doesn't always work because she'll say "ok" and act like we're talking about something else, and then a minute later butt back in with "Can I just say one thing?" And then immediately just says the thing about the topic I asked her not to talk about without actually waiting for me to answer yes or no.
I'd rather she just speak her bullshit from the start instead of pretending to respect my requests.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-22 04:58 am (UTC)(link)"Oooohhhh, you didn't call me last week, is it because you didn't like the dessert I made you?????"
"You haven't visited my new house, is it because you thought my new pants made me look faaaaaat?"
Not exact examples, but like that. Note: I don't call her or visit her because she's a narcissistic crybaby who whines when she doesn't get her way, so fuck her.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-22 05:06 am (UTC)(link)Advice
Post-op, I'm in a huge amount of pain. level 10 pain. The doctor only prescribed 100 mg of tramadol every 6 hours, and that isn't cutting it at all. I'm going to call his office in the morning and see if I can get something stronger.
But is there anything I can do tonight to lessen the pain in my foot even a little so I can sleep? Already took 1000mg ibuprofen.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-22 02:11 am (UTC)(link)See if you have any 24h pharmacies you can call to ask for advice.
I know Tramadol is an antiinflamitory, like advil, so I wouldn't recommend more ibuprofen unless otherwise specified. I think Ibuprofen/tramadol will do best for pain, (my mother's allergic to anti-inflammatories and they usually recommend those first so we have to work around them) since it's reducing the swelling in your foot. The pain might even be worse within the next day or two, so I would recommend calling the doc. The only thing higher would be an opioid. Tylenol-3's are the least potent and contain codeine, (you might be able to ask for some over the counter, but I'm probably wrong) so try those first if you can. Otherwise you might have to rely on Percocet's, which contain oxycodone, which is highly addictive.
Other than ice, I'm not sure you'll get much pain relief right away. When I got surgery last year I couldn't sleep for the first day or so. Just try to rest up best you can, and keep your mind away from the pain with distractions if you can! I hope you feel better soon!

(Anonymous) 2019-11-22 05:03 am (UTC)(link)honest to god I thought for a long time that was a huge no-no but turns out it's safe, doctor recommended, and works.
