Why don't you write Actor AU instead?

Right now, the only pairing I'm into writing for is a pairing I don't do AUs for. Which is annoying because I've had pairings in the past I enjoyed AUs for - I just don't have any rn.

Still, the next time I have a pairing I want to write AUs for, I'm definitely going to b-line straight for those sweet, sweet actor AUs.

Maybe try for a fandom for media based around acting (Once Upon a Time, Barry, La La Land, Entourage, etc.).

I'm not much of a fan of RPF either. Maybe you can try for a character study type of thing?

Just for kicks, write a story where your MC fantasizes about being an actor. Most people outside that world imagine it to be far different than it is, and your descriptions of its reality could create quite the conflict. Or, have a minor character encounter a film producer or screenwriter, possibly needing their expertise in some matter. One of your characters could have a sibling who lands a role in a film or a TV show, and some plot point in your story brings the characters to the set.

Once you get used to using your own personal experience in your writing, you might find a way to draw on someone else's experience.
