See, I think Jessie and James are both gay, but I still ship them for two reasons:

1. No one else could ever possibly be fabulous enough to meet either of their standards.

2. No one else would put up with either of them long-term.

Basically I think they're each other's only option regardless of sexuality, but I also think they genuinely love each other and could find a way to make it work.

Yeah, I also simultaneously believe that a) James is gay (or queer) and b) that he and Jessie would make a great couple because they get each other so well.

I don't think James could be gay because if the writers had meant him to be gay, they absolutely could have been explicit about it. Kids' anime has openly gay comedic villains all the time; it's a trope, and James could very easily have fit that trope with his personality. But he doesn't, because unlike all those other villains he's never shown an interest in another guy at all.

Obviously - because no-one ever makes a canon straight character gay in fic, DO THEY? Even if he WAS a canon gay character, it's FIC GODDAAAMMMIITTTTT!!!!!
