Absolutely not. Look at his latest books, they have issues, but they aren't even remotely close to the absolute shitfest the latest seasons of the tv show were. I trust Martin to deliver an at least decent ending. He is hundred of times better than D&D are.And most important, he actually gets the story he has created.

I mostly agree. If nothing else GRRM actually cares about the characters to a degree and isn't thinking "we need to finish this because we've got this other big project to work on now!" - the fact they were offered a full season for the finale and didn't take it will never not annoy me.

I say I only "mostly" agree because I feel like he's written himself into a corner by having too many threads on the go and bringing those threads all back together is obviously a problem for him. I expect if he ever does finish I'm setting my expectations to moderate-low and anything else is a bonus.

Didn’t he say that the show pretty much ended the way he’s going to write it anyway? It’s not like they went ahead in a vacuum without any say from him.

The actual events aren't the problem with the show ending, though, so much as the lack of set-up and character justification

Both of which are things GRRM could theoretically execute better

I trust Martin to deliver an at least decent ending.

Well, I would too. In a world where he's even remotely showing signs of moving toward delivering any kind of ending to this series. (okay, different rant, but still)

Yeah, I don't want to be a pessimist or anything, but it's looking like it's highly more likely that he'll die before anything actually gets finished...

people keep saying that and i can't for the life of me figure out how you think that's reasonable, whining about someone's death, in advance, not because you think it'd be a shame if they died, but because you want to read a book. all this person is is their value to your entertainment. baffling.

That’s not what ayrt did, and even if it was — sorrow that an artist will never finish their last great opus is hardly new or appalling. It’s a much older phenomenon than the modern notion that no one must mention that an elderly person will die someday.

What's baffling is that that's what you took from it. I'm generally sad when a person dies, but in the context of stories, it's fine to also be sad when you realize there's a good possibility you aren't going to get a proper ending to a series you've been following for the last decade or so.

But don't let that explanation get in the way of you filling your keyboard hero quota for the day.
