The only thing that I hate about the Yu-Gi-Oh dub is that they change the characters names

I don’t mind the dub name changes, but I do wonder if they’re even necessary. I know it’s for localization reasons, but if we can keep Yugi and Bakura, why not Jonouchi and Anzu?

Yu-Gi-Oh means King of Games, since Yugi's name is taken from the title his couldn't be changed. Also Bakura and some of the other characters, (Seto, and Ishizu for example) are reincarnations of the High Priests from ancient Egypt, so their names tie in with their past selves. (Set, and Isis) Y!Bakura technically took his name from Ryou Bakura (the body he possess, ) but also he went by Thief King Bakura back in Ancient Egypt. (Which is what allows Ryou to wear the Ring without having his soul eaten... at least I think that's a thing)

Jounouchi and Anzu (and Honda) are not tied to any past historical figures, so they have free game to change their names into something the audience might relate to better.

There was also an issue with Malik, Rishid, and Ishizu, where they were forced to change their names. (for racist reasons)

On one hand, my first instinct is to blindly defend anything Yu-Gi-Oh, but on the other hand- that's a pretty big complement given what the dub was actually like...
Since I grew up with it I'm not as opposed to it as I normally would be. The name changes are pretty good given the time it was brought over and that fact it was dubbed by 4Kids. If only in the instance of Jounouchi, since Joey is a pretty good match for the name. (I say in probable denial) With Malik, Rishid, and Isis, they were actually forced to change their names from what I can recall. The season fell around the time of 9/11 so the dub was forced to change their names to sound less middle eastern or some racist crap like that.
