I've always thought Angelo was used because Deathmask is Italian, not because of any "devil angel" wordplay.

What name would you like him to have?

ETA: Quick googling says that the five most popular boys names in Italy are Francesco, Alessandro, Lorenzo, Andrea, and Leonardo. Angelo is #47.

ETA 2: Also, are you speaking of the English-speaking fandom (which until recently has been extremely tiny)? Because back when I first wrote StS fic in 2003 or so, I was told by French and Latin American fans that anything other than "Angelo" was wrong.

Literally any other Italian name that's not Angelo. I don't care. Just not this one. A little variety please?

Speaking... I don't know, come to think, I'm primarily in the French and Spanish-speaking fandom and not really aware of what happens in the English parts?

I'm about to start watching this show ! Do you have any fic recs? ( stocking up early lol) French and/or Spanish is fine!

The answer is, until the recent Netflix reboot there wasn't very much happening in the English part of the fandom — for years I was able to nominate StS often for Yuletide because less than 7% of the total fics in the main archives were in English — there were only a few dozen good writers at most, and ma y of those were French or Latin American writers who were also fluent in English.

One of the reasons I am not active in the Latin American StSeiya fandom despite having been involved in it when it began in Mexico is due to the very militant way they stick to fanon details as if they were canon. I can understand headcanons (I personally will never see Dohko or Shion as anything but the SaintSeiya equivalent of Miguel and Tulio, but I KNOW it's a Headcanon), but the way in which things like the Angelo name just make me go "nope"

Oh yeah, that "fanon = canon" inflexibility is infuriating (and certainly is found in fandoms of all tongues)
