What about the guy who wanted to bone his sister?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-19 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Let's not forget his rival for his sister's affection.

I think "bone his sister" was pretty clearly a bait and switch scenario. It started out looking like he wanted to do that, but his inner monologue showed eventually that he was really just super codependent on her in a nonsexual way (he literally says this, why would he lie in his inner monologue). And that it doesn't make his feelings about her healthy; just because they weren't incestuous.

Sorry I'm kinda sick of the "hurr hurr gross dude wanted to fuck his twin" takes that totally miss the point because people like being crass and edgy.

Technically, no one liked him either, and he didn't make it to the Grand Final. So my theory still stands.

Kubo said nobody in YOI would ever face negativity for who they love, and shockingly, I think that includes straight people.

Very true, my thought process at the time was that the crashed dinner turned into a celebration of sorts for Victor's sorta proposal, so they all left because what would J.J. know about two dudes getting engaged. I wasn't exactly thinking straight at the time.

Aw shit, this wasn't a fever dream? For reference I made this after watching the 10th episode, and was trying to reason why everyone just left as soon as J.J. and his girlfriend showed up. I woke up in the middle of the night with what I thought at the time was a 'Eureka!' moment, made this secret and went right back to sleep. So yeah.

I always thought they left because he's kind of obnoxious.

Yup, that'd be the logical reason, matched with the sour note Victor made with saying Yuri would win the gold medal in front of all his competition.
Yuri!!! On Ice, has never been the best at displaying the relationships between the different skaters, and until (and after) that point the only one who seemed to have a problem with J.J. was the Russian Yuri, which is mainly/only because J.J. beat him in his first senior competition.
J.J.'s obnoxiousness was mainly on the ice, I would say. Even his competitiveness with Victor was overshadowed by Christophe, who actually said to Yuri that he shouldn't be keeping Victor all to himself. J.J.'s tagline was mostly to be unlikeable enough to have the viewers root against him despite being the most talented in the competition. That impression wasn't so definitive in the viewpoint of his fellow skaters.
