*facepalm* Ppl are saying WHAT about Steven/Spinel shippers??? Also, what are they saying about Lapis?

I just got back into this fandom and I have noticed ppl are berating others a lot for shipping Gems with humans?? It's silly af. They justify it because of the age gaps but the Gems aren't human and most don't seem to have "adult" mindsets (plz refer to Aquamarine and Eyeball, among many others). Besides, by this reasoning, wouldn't Rose Quartz/Greg shippers be "pedos" too? But I haven't seen any discourse about that. (Or I may have missed it - I tend to stay away from most of the discourse crap best as I can.)

It's all stupid anyway and I'm not going to let others tell me who I'm allowed to ship.

The Lapis-bashing seems to take a couple flavors:

1a) That she's not recovering fast enough from her experiences and she's still so sad all the time
1b) That when she reacts according to her experiences and it makes someone sad (ie Peridot), that makes her an evil person
2) That Jasper's perspective of their fusion somehow carries more weight (and in general that a bad relationship has to have a clear abuser and victim and can't simply have been awful for both)

I'm beginning to think most of the ppl behind this discourse are under the age of 18. Anyone older making these arguments should be embarrassed of themselves/lack real world experience. :-/

This was the post that really pissed me off:

Ironic that Lapis sings that she’s “tired of the blame” when literally no one she knows blames her or holds her accountable for anything (the only person I remember trying, Connie, got brushed off and never tried again), and by ironic I mean “this initially mysterious and interesting character has turned out to be so badly written and disappointing because the writers seem to want credit for her growth without ever actually showing her learning anything, just having her make decisions offscreen and claim she’s learned.”

That “cycle of horrible torture” was something you did to someone else because you wanted to and you have never apologised or expressed any concern for how it affected her, you hellbeast. Nor have you ever apologised for the way you treated Peridot (taking away her home and everything she owned and had built with you because she didn’t agree with you, and accusing her of lying because she was afraid to upset you), and the show just treats it like everything you’ve ever done was fine and you are a poor little thing who only needs to be happy. By this stage I can’t imagine they’re ever going to address this, because they simply don’t see it as a problem, and it’s a huge letdown.

It's weird because character archetypes similar to Lapis tend to not get as much hate when they're male. Keith from Voltron kinda comes to mind.

well yes, this is a known phenomenon sadly. give a female character the same negative traits as a male of the same type and watch as she'll be universally reviled and hated while he's adored.

i wish it wasn't as common as it is but i've given up expecting fandom to change in this regard :/

They really fucked Lapis up though, like she's practically the definition of "wasted potential". I don't know why you'd want backlash against Rose bashing, Rose is fucking awful.

She's not, though. I think it's great having a character whose recovery is slow and ongoing, considering how fast others seem to move on past their troubles.

And there's a difference between discussing Rose's obvious faults and bashing her, come on.
