Wow, f!s sure loves to flog a dead horse and pretend it's critical breaking news.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, there is a lag between when the secret is made and when it's posted, and these in particular are probably being staggered so there's not one giant post of this bullshit.

You're right of course but ayrt is way too full of themselves to grasp this logic.

Although to be honest I blame Trump and the News Media(tm) for creating the illusion that twitter drama is important breaking news.

Trump is responsible for a lot of awful shit, but I'm pretty sure Twitter is responsible for creating the illusion that Twitter drama is important breaking news.

Nah, the media (at least the media that I watch) spends way too much time (IMO) talking about how people on Twitter are just a loud, tiny minority that needs to be ignored.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? It's almost as if people are deciding what they want to talk about (and when, and for how long) instead of letting YOU decide for them, as is proper! Crazy!

I don't get comments like this. First of all: Several people have opinions about this fandom related topic and makes secrets about it. There is a gap between secrets getting submitted and when they get posted. And if you want different secrets so much, fucking make some already. Nobody is stopping you!

Multiple comments up-thread have made the case that the "trans community" has made criticizing Rowling the political agenda of the season. And if you want to talk about it here, awesome, break a fucking leg. But for fuck's shake shut down all this chicken-little catastrophizing that last week's twitter storm is a big fucking deal for the future of trans activism, much less LGBTQ communities who spent more time talking about who's hosting next month's social than a washed-up kidfic writer.

It's also interesting to point out that the continuing discussion tends to be brought up by people defending Rowling.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-05 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever. I'd say that defending Rowling isn't a hill that radical feminism outside of f!s is all that interested in dying on either.
