Not exactly sure what a doomed romance is. Just once that end unhappily?

I think it's a relationship that you know wont pan out in the end, or will end in some sort of tragedy. Like a Romeo and Juliet situation where you know fate wont let them be together of one/both of them are fated to part ways. That sort of thing, if I'm remembering correctly.

Jamie and Brienne. Of course, I knew one was going to die. I didn't think they were going to fuck up quite that badly.

I firmly believe that, while one of them will die in the books, GRRM intends for their romance to have a much more satisfying progression and conclusion than that joke of a barely seen month-long fling in the show followed by Cersei: the D&D drug guaranteed to piss and shit on a great character arc and then set it on fire.

Unless the traveling time between Winterfell and King's Landing is yet another thing D&D forgot. (In season 1, it was stated that it took a month one way.) Dany and others made it to KL when Jaime was still in Winterfell.

Nuada/Nuala from Hellboy 2, perhaps not quite canon but I feel the subtext was more than enough to get-across that they either had unrequited messy feelings for one another, or it was requited but they stopped. Either way their story ends in tragedy as it should.(Similarly Nuala/Abe is tragic in the same vein: her connection to her brother dooms her ultimately so they can never really be).

Mariah/Shades from Luke Cage, truly so wonderfully messy and doomed to failure. They're both shitbags so they can only trust each other for so long, and his loyalty to his bff undoes everything in the end.

Matt/Elektra from Daredevil, they both made each other so much worse and there was no way it could ever end well, but by fuck was it compelling.(I have no idea if s3 did anything with them, I've only seen upto s2+Defenders)

Anakin/Padme from Star Wars, because it could only ever end in tragedy but man did I eat it up. Suffer for me you fools, and they did.

Lotor/Allura from Voltron, tbf this one was really short-lived, but I enjoyed how it was meant to be go wrong, also Allura slam-dunking Lotor into the ground was marvelous. But yeah, enjoyed the mess for this one(though if they'd actually gone for a proper redemption with him I'd also have liked for this to sail properly, but w/e).

Sheriden/Delen, these two are a different case because the two of them were actually good for one another while they got to be together, but it was never meant to last, it was always meant to rip my heart into little pieces, and they did. Good show.

Eve/Villanelle, these two are in the 'not sure they're ever gonna get to be camp' but I LOVE IT. They're so messy and twisty, and fucked. I can't wait to see s3 and how much worse they get.

I forgot about Shades! I personally prefer him and his BFF. both platonically and not, since I love that guy!

Does it have to be canon? Because Lex and Clark in Smallville had one hell of a doomed romance from a certain point of view.

I wasn't even in the Smallville fandom, but as someone who lowkey ships them, or at least gets the appeal, this was my immediate thought as well. :)

Nope, it doesn't have to be canon! These two work really well, I remember thinking this about them when Lex figured out Clarks identity in the asylum. They could have worked out if things fell just a little differently, but alas it was not meant to be.

Fleabag/The Priest from Fleabag. It ended as well for them as it could have, but still. ;___;
