My sister wanted to get back into running after two difficult pregnancies and raising two small humans close in age so I agreed to sign up for a half marathon with her. It's in October.

So my goal is to get to the point where I can run a half marathon without dying. I completed Couch to 5K at the end of 2018 and have stuck with running 2-3 miles at least twice a week so can already do 5K fairly easily. It's just a case of defeating my worries that I won't be able to do a massively increased distance.

I'm in my 30s and HATED running at school. The fact I picked up running a couple of years ago at my age is a miracle in itself!

That's so cool of you to support your sister!
And you've already worked super hard at improving your fitness and showed a lot of determination by doing the couch to 5k, so you should have no problems working up to a half marathon!

I know you didn't specifically ask for advice, so feel free to ignore this if it isn't of any interest/use to you, but DareBee have a program for building up to running a half marathon (as well as lots of other free fitness programs)

Thank you - my sister suffered from sepsis after her first pregnancy and still struggled with elements of post-sepsis syndrome even during her pregnancy with her second so I think it's important to her to feel normal again. She loves her kids obviously but being a mum isn't all she wants to be so when she said she wanted to do this course again (it's one of her favourites) but wasn't keen on being alone I knew I had to be the big sister I sometimes failed to be when we were younger.

I know I didn't ask for advice but I honestly very much appreciate it! Trying to maintain this level of fitness is a big deal for me and I'll take all the help I can get. Thank you for the link to a training program. I've got to work out a time frame because I don't want to go all out too early but I need to work up to it now we're in 2020. I'm aiming to make a serious half marathon training effort with at least 12 weeks to go until race day, but building some of my strength now isn't a bad thing!

Lose weight. The meds I'm on apparently often cause people to lose weight, and I have lost some, but I'm still morbidly obese. I try to exercise every day, but I just get so... weary? It's not quite like being physically tired, it's more emotional.
Oh wait, that's the depression.

My big goal for the year is find a new shrink. I haven't been to any sort of mental healthcare professional in about a year, and I hated the last one I saw :/

I'm in the same boat as you. I've lost some weight since I got put on this migraine med about 6 months ago that causes weight loss, but I'm still morbidly obese (I'm on 3 other meds that cause weight gain, and I used to be on a migraine med that caused weight gain). I still can't exercise as I'm still using a cane post-foot surgery, so I have to stick to diet. I'm doing better than I used to, but I still have trouble saying no to chocolate when I'm stressed.

I hope you find a good therapist. I need to call mine. I had just started seeing a new one before I had surgery, so I haven't talked to her since early November. Need to find her number and call her.

Shrink shopping is exhausting, I feel you. :/ Like it's already using up so much mental energy to just get an appointment and go, having it be a bad fit and having to go to square one is kinda crushing. I hope whichever one you find next works out much better for you, anon. ♥

I completely empathize, it's so important to find a shrink you get along well with. I was mostly lucky enough to get good ones but I also had a couple of real stinkers.

The last one I saw declared that losing weight was simple, which was about the point that I decided I wasn't going to get anything out of seeing him.

Learn something so that I can hopefully get a remote job. Supply chain? Coding? Project management? I don't know. ;_;

Oh yes, I know I'm not alone. I've just been so not in the right headspace to write for ages now and I no longer care what write, I'd just like to sit down and lose myself for a few hours creating something the way I used to do. :(
