What are your favorite character deaths?

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Either because of how it was done or who died.

Samuel L Jackson, Deep Blue Sea

The making-of for that scene is even funnier. Jackson was supposed to monologue about ice for over three minutes. The effects guy said something like, "Sam, we can kill you once you hit that mark." Jackson said, "Yes, kill me as soon as you can," and take after take, he jogged across the set to hit that mark as early as possible.

Darth Vader. Obi-Wan. Luke Skywalker.

Boromir. Fingolfin. Celebrimbor. Maedhros. Glorfindel. Ungolient (ate herself to death). Finrod (bit a werewolf to death). Gandalf.

Buffy. Angel/Angelus. Spike.

Missy, as much as I was sad to see her go, her death was pretty epic.

Spock in Wrath of Khan. No Trek death will ever top that.

Black Widow in Endgame. I for one thought that was really well done.

Yondu's death worked for me, and Guardians 2 redeemed his character for me.

I loved Missy and her death made me so sad, but it was pretty great. I'm still holding out a bit of hope that we'll somehow see her with Thirteen.

I compare all hero deaths to Boromir. That's how you do death right.

Aeris for how it was done. Such a beautiful, gut-wrenching scene.

Also, L from Death Note.

Watching Joffrey choke to death was fantastic.

Most impactful is Mufasa's death in The Lion King. Though, Vegeta sacrificing himself to kill Buu is a close second.

That most famous death of a loved character in The Wire might be most shocking.

Derek Reese's death in Sarah Connor Chronicles. It was just so sudden and absolute and there was no time to even slow down to register it. I think the entire thing took about three seconds on screen, and I still think about that moment all the time, and how brutally effective it was.

All my favourite characters die, so I don't really have a favourite death.

But really, I'd probably say that one dude from Gantz. I hated the series, (so terrible) and I despised the one character, and I was very happy when he finally died. So much so that I downloaded the one song the robot apparently sings when it kills him and I still listen to it today.

It was heartwrenching, but so beautiful and amazing...Miller and Julie. Oh, my gods. Want to ugly-cry and just get it all out? Watch that.

One of the ones I remember best from when I was a kid was Starscream in Transformers: Armada. We used to watch it before going to school, and that was I think the first and only time I went to school blubbering over a fictional character. It was probably the shot of Starscream's final attack blinking out before it can reach Unicron that did it, though as a kid it was a bit hard to verbalise the bit of tragic futility that added to the moment.

That scene also forever locked Armada!Starscream as the one true Starscream in my head (Armada was the first iteration of the show I saw), which made seeing G1 years later a little odd.

I do like Daniel, but I thought his first death was really well done.

Yeah, I generally don't mind when characters don't stay dead, unlike some people that find it unrealistic.

Dinobot on Beast Wars. He was my favorite character and I was so mad that he died, but damn that episode was a masterpiece.

Dinobot's the best, hands down.

Teo McDohl from Genso Suikoden. Rarely does one get to see a character go in peace, especially in the middle of an ugly war.
