It's weird, cause I actually expected The Untamed to be LESS gay than it was due to the censors and was really surprised by how much they did with it.

That said:

- Teen Wolf (Sterek was nearly non-existent in actual canon?)
- Voltron (Same with Klance. I understood Sheith a lot better)
- Once Upon a Time (I kinda sorta understand the theory of SwanQueen but...)
- The entire MCU

Ditto re: The Untamed. I figured they'd play it pretty straight up best friends and wasn't even expecting subtext at all. I definitely wasn't expecting all the longing glances and UST.

Then again, Once Upon a Time canon was taken over by ridiculous romance that ruined things (cough:CaptiainSwan), so the fandom wasn't the worst part about that show.

i'm still partly flabbergasted by just how popular klance was and still is considering that the ship had less screentime in the show than sterek did in TW.

i mean hats-off to the fandom i guess for being able to churn out the content, but man, you'd think they'd have all the interaction and storylines if you didn't know anything about the show.

Coulson and Clint were one of the most popular MCU ships and I think they said like...2 sentences to each other.

Tossing Mycroft/Lestrade on this pile. It wasn't the MAIN ship for that fandom, but it was pretty popular and the characters hadn't even spoken to each other on screen until...IDK, but I think it was pretty near the end.

Lol, fandom, you're weird.

this doesn't make me less confused tbh, but i guess i just don't have the fandom brain for slapping two random characters together based on nothing, so i won't ever understand.

Yup. I never got the popularity of Clint and Coulson.

It is totally just a case of pair the spares.

Actually I have a theory about this that I've noticed in almost every fandom I've been in, especially the fandoms in this list. Fandom seems to decide their ships immediately. Clint/Coulson have very little interaction outside of their first appearance together in Thor. Sterek interact a fair bit in season 1 but then it quickly dwindles. So basically people decide their ships very early on and then cling to those ships regardless of canon. Pretty much every ship I've seen where people don't understand why it's so popular is because it was popular at the start. I'm going through it with a current fandom where two characters had an interesting scene in the first episode but haven't interacted since and are so far the biggest ship of the fandom.

I liked the Clint/Coulson interaction in Thor and if people thought they were going to interact more then it makes sense they would start shipping it. But there was no more canon material yet the fandom kept chugging.

I'm surprised multiple people have named the MCU in this thread. I know there are a bunch of slash ships, but I didn't think anyone outside of certain fandom circles took them seriously enough to make people think they could expect anything.
