Not wanting a female Doctor is more understandable, I think, because IIRC canon does seem to suggest that Time Lords don't tend to regenerate into Time Ladies or vice versa (Curse of Fatal Death aside). There is, however, absolutely no reason that I can think of why the Doctor couldn't be black, or any other race for that matter.

It's just a preference. How the hell is it any different to stating "I really don't want the doctor to have long greasey hair and wear a heavy metal t-shirt" or "I don't want the Doctor to be a chav" or "I don't want the doctor to be a teenager"?

I'm so sick of how goddamned politically correct people are nowadays. Having a preference for something does not mean you're racist. It's people saying "RAH MAKE HIM BLACK RAH MAKE HIM BLACK!" that's bringing race into the issue, not anyone who really just has preferences.

Who's trying to link them together? I'm saying in my opinion it makes no difference at all, if I don't particularly see the Doctor in that way, I don't see him in that way. There are plenty of 'looks' I just plain don't associate with the Doctor. Female, and anything apart from white, mid 20s to 60s, and British doesn't fit the bill. I'd be just as narked if the next actor was American or Australian.

Just my two cents. Sorry.

No, it's not. Are you the sort of person who thinks people who haven't dated outside their creed are racist, too? I am so tired of people who throw around the word "racist" these days at the drop of a hat. It REALLY takes any strength away from people who actually ARE racist scum. We should spend more time focusing on them and less on trigger words.

The Doctor is a Time Lord. He travels space and time. I think you'll be lucky if he isn't green. I don't see where It says he can't be black or female. Personally I can only imagine the sheer comedy if The Doctor became female. There would be at least two shows centered on the Doctor's fasination with his own boobs. Come on. It would be hysterical.

Oh, I just wanted to say (hello, I'm the person with the dumb argument in the first row, but I don't really want to explain everything, 'cause all what everybody would answer is: YOU'RE A RACIST OMG F*CK OFF, so it's unnecessary to spend more time in argumentation):

I'm a female and I'm black (and I was black all twenty years in my life), I'm not very sad about that Tennant is leaving (I prefer other doctors), and nevertheless I don't want a black doctor. It just doesn't fit in the role.

But, yeah, like I said - why should I really explain? All YOU PEOPLE can say: "RACIST!!!11"

I'm so sick of all this things that you immediately a racist if you say one word against a black actor. It just doesn't fit in the role in my eyes.

Maybe it's not racist. It's way too easy to jump in and go "OMG RACIST!" But you also have to understand that you're not just "saying one word against a black actor," you're saying that NO BLACK ACTOR should play the role because it doesn't fit the character. And you really don't have an argument other than that you don't think it fits the character just because you don't like the idea of it (at least, that's all that I've seen).

The fact remains that whatever the Doctor turns into, it fits the character because he's the Doctor. That's the point of the Doctor. He could be black, or a teenager, or child, or arguably female (though there is decent debate on that one). There's no proof in the series that he has to be 100% humanoid, or might not, in some incarnation, come out... I don't know, green or something.

The Doctor is the character. If the writers write the role correctly, and the actor or actress plays the part correctly, then it's in character and fitting for the Doctor. And if not, it's not the fault of the fact that the part was played by "a black person," or "a woman," or "a kid," it'd be the fact of either the writers, that particular actor or actress and casting director, or a mix of the above. I'd be the first to admit that I'd be jarred if the new incarnation was a seventeen year old girl, or had an American Southern accent... but if they did a good job with it, it would still fit the Doctor.
