One of the things I loved about the Nirvana in Fire CDrama was how on the ball all the political strategists actually were. There was amazing tension the whole way through, because there were five or six genuinely lethal strategists in play on several sides, and one slip-up on anyone's part could destroy everything. Mei Changsu, Xie Yu, Xia Jiang, Consort Jing, Prince Yu & Banruo, the Emperor, Marquis Yan, Consort Yue ... Even relatively minor characters like Prince Ji and Eunuch Gao, had moments of being surprisingly on the ball as well. It made for fantastic tension.
