I'm a woman, a feminist, and I cry less than most men I know. But I can't say I think OP is wrong. Giving slash bottoms qualities that are more typically seen as feminine is definitely a thing.

What is ‘yaoi’ manga? I don’t think that’s a thing that exists. Do you mean BL manga? Or yaoi doujinshi? I think you mean one or the other of those, cause there’s no such thing as ‘yaoi manga’...

What do you mean there is no such thing as yaoi manga? I always thought BL was like a general term for all M/M manga and yaoi was the name for the explicit stuff. And aren't doujinshis simply self-published non-official stuff like fanzines? Are you saying that there is no professionally published yaoi at all?

I haven't had much contact with BL/yaoi since high school but I'm pretty sure this was how we used these terms back then. Did that change or were we wrong all along?

you've clearly been blessed bc i've come across it far more than i'd like, even with characters that in canon are absolute assholes: in fanfic they suddenly start crying and mewling during sex. it's fucking weird.

For one thing, it sort of seems to me like it would be useful to have a way to talk about these issues that more directly problematizes the idea that these themes in characterization can accurately be summed up as "weepy girl shit"

well "weepy girl shit" isn't what was said. and i don't think there is an fundamental difference between "emotional girl in a very stereotypical way but male because this is m/m and they occupy the same social position" and "weepy girl in man's body"

Phrasing it as "weepy girl in a man's body" is a really bad way to criticize that though as the wording is both misogynistic and homophobic itself.

maybe i don't see what you're seeing as to what is misogynistic and homophobic? I think it's a description of the misogynist and homophobic thought behind the trope.
