Are you saying it's not okay to wait for someone to meet your standards to come along, no matter what those standards are?

The secret was a statement, not a whine. I have no problems with being the way I am. :)

[identity profile] ex-kleinod.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
If those standards are based on a bunch of lines on pieces of paper, oh hell yeah. That's exactly what I'm saying.

Well good for you, anonymous. I have no problems to pity such people, cause seriously, such people make me sadder than photos of abandoned little puppies in the rain or dead kittens something.

(Anonymous) 2007-03-11 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you tell me. What's the difference between comparing real people to movie stars and comparing them to anime characters? Or are those people all pathetic, too? Have you never compared someone to your favorite singer?

By the way, I don't do the comparisons with the physical looks, I do it with the personalities and characters. Therefore, your argument about lines on pieces of paper is irrelevant.

[identity profile] ex-kleinod.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
There's no difference as it's both hella ridiculous?!

No, I have not. Comparing real people to either fiction or totally unreachable stars (who could just be as fake as comic characters) really ain't my thing. Well, but then, maybe I did. When I was... 10 or something. Point given.

Is that the reason why you picked a pic with three standard anime-bishis with bedroom eyes, including a pink background with roses to point out their personalities? 8D Come on, that's fucking pathetic. Their "personalities" stay as fake as their appearance.

(Anonymous) 2007-03-11 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
You, obviously, have never watched the series. I picked the picture because it had Hikaru, Kaoru, and Kyoya in it, three characters I happen to like. The series itself is a parody of the shoujo anime stereotypes, and the backgrounds and such are there for that reason.

I'm sorry, but I don't want to talk to you further.

(Anonymous) 2007-03-11 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Different anon, but wow, you're full of yourself. :) Does it make you happy putting people down just because they don't share your views? How conceited!

[identity profile] ex-kleinod.livejournal.com 2007-03-11 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You may ask again if you're bold enough to log in :3

(Anonymous) 2007-03-12 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I would if I had an LJ. ♥

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'll say I think most of that was uncalled for.

[identity profile] degrees.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Not the same "different anon", but I'm curious about the answer to the question.

[identity profile] maeda.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Another someone who's logged in and curious.

[identity profile] zhoutaisdayoff.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, inquiring minds with LJ accounts want to know the answer to that question.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Anime characters are archetypes that cannot and never will be fleshed out like a human being, as is wont for ANY fictional character.

If you can't see that, you need to get out more.

(woo emily can't type)

Not everyone has similar standards, and if the person wants to do whatever they're doing, then let them. We're not here to be the judge of that. Just because you can do it, and they have different ideals and are content with them, doesn't mean there's any reason to feel superior over those who can't achieve the same.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's not a matter of superiority, and I haven't acted like it is (speaking only for myself, not the other chick), nor is it a matter of different standards. This secretposter's "standards" are that of one-dimensional characters (as everyone fictional is) with clean-cut flaws and personalities one can WRITE.

She needs to learn that real people are not and cannot be like that. It's an unhealthy attitude.

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
one-dimensional characters (as everyone fictional is)

I'd like to point out, not if they're written well. If written poorly, sure, one-dimensional characters exist. Writers who know what they're doing know that and avoid it.

I don't mean like, one-dimensional personalities with no facets of character or depth whatsoever ^^; If you prefer me be geometrically correct, then a two-dimensional character is not originally flat and uninteresting unlike today's incarnation of the word, so kinda my bad for using a term that's been updated.

In any case, my point is whether a character is shitty written or well-rounded he still is lacking the literally billions of features that make up REAL PEOPLE, and thus it is ridiculous to hold that standard.

In fact, they're not even in the same ballpark. It's like comparing an orange to a football stadium.

Re: kinneas from rp journal

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
*dies* I find it kinda ironic that you say that with an RP journal. If they lack all the features that make up REAL PEOPLE, then how is roleplay even possible?

I don't really care either way about the actual secret, but as a writer I like to think that my characters, and other people's characters, ARE real people. Not like, walking around and talking to me and existing on Earth real people (not that crazy yet), but you know, their own entities. Real people that someone made up that just don't physically exist. And if they're -not- that, then I (or whoever) am doing something wrong, and they're flatter than they -should- be.

But I'll stop before I just randomly metababble for pages on writing or something. *dies*

I get where you're coming from completely, since I'm a big RPer and fanfic writer myself. While we can strive to make them as realistic and far from archetype as possible, though, the depth of human reality and interaction prevents anyone fictional from being completely real.

But like I said, we can always try to get there :D
