I used to wonder if I had a pregnancy kink... until I worked out I had weight gain kink and pregnancy fic just happened to crossover with that.

Just quietly lol-ing here think of all the pregnancy related fic I must have read as a teenager that I had no idea was supposed to be erotic, while I was just waiting it out for some body image insecurity content that the author probably thought was in dental to the main show.

Heh! I can see how you might confuse one kink for the other, at least at first. In my case it's definitely, 100% breeding/pregnancy kink, not weight gain kink (in fact, I tend to kink on the idea of characters not gaining much weight during their pregnancy). But I do think both kinks might come from a vaguely similar place for some people?

For me, pregnancy kink is all about loss of control of one's body. I've had body dismorphic disorder since I was a little kid, and I had anorexia as a teen, so it's pretty clear I have issues when it comes to Being Totally In Control Of My Body.

But for some reasons, when it comes to pregnancy kink, instead of being hugely squicked (the way I am with most body horror), I'm massively turned on.

Weight gain kink does seem like it probably has similar elements of loss of control. But with weight gain kink, I assume there's usually an element of, like, inability to stop the behavior that is causing the weight gain. Whereas with pregnancy kink, the loss of control is completely out of the character's hands. There's nothing they can do to stop their body from betraying them (presuming they don't have access to abortion, which they usually don't, for the sake of furthering the kink).

Yeah, I find the crossover interesting too. I feel like you could draw a Venn diagram of pregnancy kink fic, weight gain pregnancy kink fic, and hurt comfort pregnancy fic written by an unsuspecting author that just happens to push kinky buttons.

It might sound weird, but I think it's cool you've been able to find a kinky outlet to work through some of the body issues you've experienced. I assume being able to vicariously experience loss of bodily control in a positive/safe setting through pregnancy fic is probably cathartic as well as sexy for you.

I have no idea why I'm in to what I'm into, but I do suspect that my mum being quite nasty about my weight (and other people's) when I was young contributed - as someone who likes weight gain on other people, not myself, it feels like it's exciting partly because it's this taboo thing I'm not supposed to like, and partly because it feels like having control over something that has caused my a lot of mental anguish.

With weight gain fic a lot of the loss of control is pretty analogous to erotica in general - the person knows what they're doing is 'wrong' but doesn't want to stop themselves because it feels so 'right'. And the feeder/feeder dynamic is pretty standard sub/dom control stuff, just with a different focus. Being turned on by humiliation is a fairly common thing in the genre as well - which I think all hails back to some kind of complex psychological gymnastics allowing people to turn something they perceive, or believe is perceived as negative into something positive.

In conclusion, brains are weird things, lol.
