I'll never get that argument. "It's like two men can't just be friends". You guys talk as if there were fully realized queer relationships all across media. Or as if "bromances" didn't make an incredibly high portion of fiction.

If the fandom is obnoxious against rival shippers just say so, instead of repeating the same homophobic argument I see every other week on tumblr (and yes, it's homophobic. The OP of those posts always prove it).

(Anonymous) 2020-02-29 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I mooooooostly agree, except I don't think it's necessarily homophobic. But it is ridiculous

(Anonymous) 2020-02-29 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
For me it's less "not enough close male friendships" and much more the insistence that if two men are close, they MUST be fucking. I'm all for ship and let ship, though, and there's definitely obnoxious/shitty people on both sides of every case of this.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-29 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a general observation not a criticism of you, but it seems to me that people use the argument against shipping in general, even though you can ship people without actually insisting that the people involved must be fucking. That's the gap that doesn't make sense to me

idk, i don't see how someone assuming two men must be fucking can bother anyone that doesn't think it's somehow wrong for two men to BE fucking. otherwise what's the issue.

As someone who didn't like Keith, Lance, Sheith, Klance, or Allurance... Voltron was hell for me. I know at the end of the day Klance shippers were the most toxic part of the fandom, but the Sheith tinhatters were also intensely annoying.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-29 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It was just a mess all around.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-29 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
What did you watch it for???

(Anonymous) 2020-02-29 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt but I liked Pidge and at first just the whole "rag tag team comes together to save the world" theme is always fun for me.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-29 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

I watched it because it was fun background noise and I enjoyed Shiro and really liked Allura. And I absolutely loved Lotor when he showed up.

Except then they did literally everything I predicted they would (and didn't want) with him and I stopped watching.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-29 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah i skipped out of the fandom and stuck with just the show after s3 because everyone was so annoying and i didn't care for either of the big ships.

plus i wanted to talk about allura or shiro as their own characters and well... lmao at trying to find that.

are you really looking for fully realized introspection from shippers who need evidence for signs of canon-ness? come on. they just want to justify their ship. there is no configuration of the objects of a ship whose shippers won't do this if they feel they need to.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-29 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The "a gay man can't be friends with another man" is a real stupid point because people were shipping these two long before any trace of an official "Shiro is gay" statement ever existed. And while there were and are tinhatters for the Sheith ship, they have nothing on the Klancers in terms of insanity and sheer toxicity.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-29 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Klancers were bad, but Sheithers were still god awful in their own right. The ending of Voltron was utter horseshit, but their crying over Shiro getting married to a rando and not Keith will always bring me joy. Both Sheith shippers and Klance shippers deserved what they got.

both of those shipper-bases were awful and i am so happy neither of them got what they wanted, it's what they deserved.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-01 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Nobody was crying because Shiro didn't marry Keith. Nobody thought Sheith was going to be canon, except for maybe in the sense of them going off on an adventure together at the end as friends. What people were upset with was that he barely even interacted with Keith at all in the last season after he was revealed to be gay, and married a rando and it was made into a big production as part of the epilogue, because it's terrible writing and was a grab for ally points after the complaints about "bury your gays" with Shiro's ex.

just because sheith fans weren't as bad as klance fans doesn't mean sheith fans weren't their own special brand of garbage. i'm tired of people denying how awful sheith fans were just because klance fans are antis. everyone was bad. no one wins. the only thing going for sheith fans is they're 98% less likely to be an anti.

the ship itself i hold no irritation towards, even though i disliked keith immensely, but the shippers, my god the shippers.

delusional to a lvl that was pretty impressive, they were as bad as klancers in that regard by the end tbh, and then they dived right down into outright hateable when they kept insisting that a pointless and terrible BYG plot was completely fine and perfect 'bc we'd get sheith'. and when the show ended they lost their shit and kept yelling about how an actual m/m kiss was homophobic and setting gays rights back bc it wasn't with the two guys they wanted it to be.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-01 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Because it wasn't BYG, it was bury a random character who only existed to show that Shiro was the gay character on the show, how dare we not care about his ex who was on screen for two seconds dying in a war as a soldier with a million other unimportant people.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-01 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I cared because it was someone important to Shiro and I liked Shiro, and fridging a gay character doesn't make it less BYG.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-01 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
he was gay and was killed for no good reason, so yeah, it was BYG. defending that decision doesn't make it any less so because you didn't hate it and thought it was fine.

pointlessly killing off an lgbt character after having it specifically mentioned on a panel to gain back-pats wasn't a good look at all, but idk why i'm surprised at seeing sheith's still defending those hack-writers shitty choices. unless it came to an m/m kiss at the end though, that was the REAL injustice.

So you don't like t when people ship m/m because platonic relationships between men are So Important and So Rare. Got it.
