OP here, and I know it seems weird but I'm writing these furbies as a sort of humanoid-robotic-furby-cross - which I had based on youtube videos of more modern furbies glitching and how their glitches can affect their personalities. Its a bit of an angsty hurt/comfort story where close friends of the malfunctioning furby are worried and trying to figure out what is happening.

Oh god, I used to babysit for a kid who had a Teddy Ruxpin, and she was so terrified of it! But her grandmother had bought it for her so her parents insisted that she had to like it. It would just randomly start talking in the night.

I remember on one of those "I Love the '80s" things, they talked about the Teddy Ruxpin dolls, and Hal Sparks joked about how he always thought those bears had some kind of subliminal message hidden away. He was like, "And Hansel and Gretel went into the... *Voice gets ominous* You hate your parents. Tonight you will go into their room and kill them!"

Yeah, they did that. I don't remember if it was my younger brother or one of my younger sisters that had the damn thing, but, wow, was it ever creepy.

oh god ok so not a fanfic, but I do remember a really weird youtube series where they used a Ruxpin bear as a puppet for a horror-comedy series. I can't remember what it is called and trying to google it just leads to halloween specials or stuff that's not, but along side the Ruxpin bear was a purple dragon puppet that acted a bit goofy.

What are your fics even about, OP?!

On tumblr someone I followed started reblogging custom furbies and I got interested as an outsider. It lead to going on youtube and down a rabbit hole of videos where I ended up watching the glitches of the 2012 furbies. I was impressed by how creative people get for making their own furbies and just how much thought that went into some of the personalities of their furbies.
