Kanye didn’t lie tho. He’s trash and awful but Taylor went on a victimizing tirade about how he made her famous at the Grammy’s when she was in on the joke of the lyric. The “bitch” narrative came out AFTER the video was released which was AFTER the grammy’s.

Uhhh... no. Wrong. Incorrect. Timeline is this:
- Kanye releases song where he says TS owes him sex because "I made that bitch famous". Video depicts her in nude mannequin form
- TS complains in the press
- Kanye releases clipped audio of phone call between them, where TS appears to okay all of that
- now, some time after all that, full audio of that call is released, where Kanye clearly obfuscates what exactly he's going to say about her, and TS emphasises that it's can't be too 'mean'. 'Nude mannequin in bed with Kanye' doesn't seem to come up.

No one is talking about the Grammys. No one gives a shit about the Grammys.

Bottom line, even if she had known all of it, I'd still be on her side.

If someone called me up, was like, "I wrote this song where I take credit for your fame, say you owe me sex, and call you a bitch. Can I have your blessing on my song?" I would assume they were a raging asshole who wanted nothing more than to rub it in my face that they were going to insult, belittle, and objectify me in front of millions of people and there was nothing I could do about it. Because who the fuck with even one single brain cell would ever think anyone would actually be okay with a song like that? Who would ever believe it was anything other than stunningly sexist and insulting?

Kanye can walk and chew gum at the same time. He knew it was insulting as fuck before he made that call.

That said, the fact that he tried to obfuscate the exact nature of what the lyrics were going to be makes it even more understandable that Taylor was like, oh it is fucking ON when she did finally hear the finished version. Because she specifically said she didn't want it to be "mean," and she specifically said she didn't want him calling her a bitch.

Was she already planning to shade the fuck out of him, even during that phone call when she was pretending to be fine with it? Maybe. Who knows, honestly. She might've been or she might not.

But then he turned around and made his already stunningly sexist and disgusting line even worse, behind her back. So like, no shit all bets were off for her at that point. No shit.

Kanye remains absolute trash for everything associated with the concept and execution of this song and video, but nothing about what we know about their respective framings regarding that call has changed with the full audio, so....

(my actual disgust for both song and video doesn't hinge on Taylor's agreement, which I never thought was whole-chested to begin with)

that said, I'm not surprised that the way Taylor handled it backfired on her originally (mildly, lbr), because frankly she could have said exactly what she said AND not framed her knowledge about the song in a way that validated Kanye's paranoia about her "agreement." It would have been so easy to the play the, actually likely truthful, card that she heard some concepts but thought about it later and got steadily angry about all of the bullshit in the song and his bullshit attitude trying to strong-arm her consent. "I reacted in a socialized way but then thought about how much this is misogynist shit" would have carried her such a long way. Instead she went the "shocked and appalled" route, which is insane considering any edit of that call. You can't play stupid games with a narcissist, you're just going to win a stupid prize at best. She's lucky her fans buy her narratives and push their aggrandizing own.

I largely agree with your assessment of what happened, but largely disagree with your verdict on Taylor. That said, this is an agree-to-disagree situation for me. What I'm really here to find out is:
