My five year old LOVES pops. Her favorite is the Goose Pop I got from a Captain Marvel promotion they did at a NHL hockey game(random, right?). But she calls it the Rocco Pop because Goose is the same color as our own cat.

Sorry, I'm bored so there's story time with Mish.

This story is adorable <3. I like the way your kid thinks :D.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-06 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Aww cute! I love my Goose a well, though Goose looks very different from my own cats, so mine has no cute nickname.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-05 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like this is satire when combined with the photos of very distinct pops.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-05 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
the robot and the cthulhu one are different but I think it's fair to say most funko pops of human characters do look incredibly similar

I have one of one of my favourite characters. I think it's cute, but I would never want more than one.

I just think they’re cute and I have a couple on my bookshelf. I got a few Frozen ones for Christmas, but I don’t like the newer ones as much as the previous ones. They don’t have any blush on their cheeks and I can’t get Anna to fit on her stand no matter what I do. I like to display them outside their boxes, so the fact that her feet don’t fit in the pegs bugs me. Vanya’s feet don’t fit on her stand either. My favorite ones are the Morton Salt Girl, Alice in the teacup, Twelve with his guitar, the TARDIS covered in flowers, and Botan. All five of them definitely look different.

I swear someone resubmits this secret once a year.

Not that you can't dislike them, but seriously, does anyone else remember seeing this image here before?

That being said, there's a reason I didn't understand why so many people wanted The Office pops. They're just in boring ordinary clothing. At least want something that's not wearing clothing you can buy.

... at least they're not ugly-creepy like the Vinylmation ones.

I just hate their faces. Everything else is fine. :(

Do adore the Rock Candy line, though and wish they'd do other characters and not the third or fourth incarnation of Harry Potter characters. -.-

Even though I collect a few myself, I do agree that they can be ugly/bland lol.
There's some from series that are my favourites but I hate the funko versions for them. But once in a while I'll find one I think is cute or like how they look (I really like the Lord of the Rings ones for Legolas and Gimli, and my favourite one so far is Jaylah from the Star Trek Beyond movie). Also they're more affordable than most figurines and idk I get them because they spark joy in this existence of mine.

they're not very expressive. They remind me of the work of Joan Walsh Anglund, which is not a compliment.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-05 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
They're just things to have around.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-06 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I kinda get the appeal when it comes to fandoms that don't have a lot of merch (I own one Funko Pop which is from Gargoyles, because seventh grade me didn't sit around wishing for more Gargoyles figures just for current me to turn one down). I don't really get the anime ones though, since they pretty much only make them for popular series and there's almost certainly a nendoroid or lottery figure or something you can get that looks way better and more detailed -- yes, more expensive, but nendoroids aren't that pricey and I've found nice looking prize figures for under $20 online.

I don't think they all look the same (except for the obvious of big eyes, big head, little body), but yeah....i don't get it.

*shrugs*

But the people who love 'em? You do you! Enjoy!

I don't get them either. I think they're weird and unattractive. But to each their own and all that.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-06 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I have one because it's basically the only thing I can get of my fandom (it's kinda old at this point). I think it's just a fun way for people to have a fandom thing if they want one.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-06 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I don't like them much myself, especially when they try to do a character with a very distinctive look that hasn't had many variations (Rick and Morty, say, or Spongebob-- Disney and WB characters have had somewhat different looks over the years). The beady black eyes are also waaaaay too sharklike.

I'll give them this, though: the sheer DIVERSITY of characters that have been done is impressive.

for the price, i think they're nice entry-level nerd collectibles, a lot of the less popular fandom pops are probably the only figurines that character might get. there were blue haired sydney bristow from alias pops that sat on the shelf in my local walmart for months, but i'm sure someone out there was happy to see those.

They do. I've never got the appeal myself, and the people who hoard them for their 'collectors value' are going to be in for a rude awakening when they realize all their plastic is going to be completely useless in less than a years time.

I think the appeal is having a reminder of your fave character around. People love collectible stuff like this. I have only two of my fave character Foxy from FNAF.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-06 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Even when there's alternative merch available, a lot of it is extravagantly expensive or heavy cheesecake.
