Notice how it tends to be the shows with canon queer characters where the creator gets accused of being a pedophile or a Nazi or whatnot?

Are you saying that people who criticize the show are doing so out of homophobia, or what? I genuinely don't understand what you're saying

If I had to guess, I’d say that the reason is that the kind of person who makes all these criticisms only watches queer shows in the first place. But however it happens, it’s pretty ridiculous that the most inclusive stuff always gets the most flack from people who supposedly want inclusive stuff.

Yup. And I think they know established creators won't listen to their demands and will do what they want, but new, fandom related creators are more "approachable" and they think they can bully them into submission. So their standards for representation for each are messed up and turned backwards: to the queer creators actually providing queer content, instead of to the mainstream ones that'll throw us a bone from time to time, and rarely with lead characters.

This is so true.

In summary, if a show or whatever is created by a queer person, or the subject matter involves a lot of queer characters, it gets heavily criticized in a way that other things don't. People expect queer content to be Perfect, in whatever way perfect means to them, and if the creator or the content is not Squeaky Clean Perfection, it gets judged extra harshly.

I still think the most ridiculous I've seen was that Rebecca Sugar is a bona fide Nazi because her cartoon metaphor for abusive family didn't have a cartoon metaphor for the Nurenberg trials.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-21 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
The hate Rebecca Sugar gets is absolutely astonishing. She created the best children's cartoon irt queer rep to date, among other things, but oh no, she didn't showcase the Big Bads getting murdered. How dare she.

Nayrt
Yeah. Like, I don't even like SU and think there are some issues with it plot-wise but the fact that a show that has been very clear on the pacifist/non-violent approach from the start getting so much shit for sticking to that is just completely ridiculous.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-22 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The kind of logic that declares liberal peace advocates to be literal nazis for not taking a more radical stance is exactly the kind of creep Godwin's law was created to address.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-21 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
That isn't true at all, but okay.

I’d love to see counterexamples in either direction. I think The Loud House had a gay character and avoided flack?
