If that's the actual art then yeah, I agree. There's not much leeway in the way of coloured drawings when you're trying to distinguish race.

they're white like paper - they're white in that no actual colour has been put into their bodies
it's generally agreed that they have no canon ethnicity

Interesting. I'll have to check out the actual comic then just to see the actual artstyle. I'm used to toning and the like, even when it drawn completely black and white. I know Homestuck has gone through like over a dozen artstyles over the years so no canon ethnicity does make sense I suppose.

honestly i think hussie did when he first wrote it too lmao. but i think by the time fans began arguing for the stark "literal #fff skin color" allowing for any variety of coloring book-esque interpretation (which i think is kinda cool personally) hussie was just kind of like "yea sure."

Yeah, I think so too, and I think it's sweet too! But I followed along with Homestuck when I was about the kids age myself and identified with them and now I'd be terrified to put my name to that opinion, or even draw fanart of them all as white, and I think that's a shame too.

For humanstuck versions of the trolls I'm so down with any variation thou!

aw! i'm sorry that you've been made to feel terrified to even say so. i think that's rly cute.

i also grew up w these dorks and i'll probs never get over em bc of it haha. personally once i was introduced to the idea that they didn't all have to be white i projected myself onto them too. and then the ectobiology getting thrown into the mix made me have to think about strilondes and [whatever the portmanteau for harley egbert crocker english is] all relate?! ahaha.

ALSO i'm such a sucker for humanstuck of the trolls! i will chit chat about that anytime i 100% mean that haha

Yeah it's like every third year or so the homestuck fandom just opens up and swallows me whole again! just when i thought i was over it it's time to watch lyricsstucks and read strider's edge all over again.

aw yeah. back in the day i started writing a humanstuck au fic thank god that didn't see the light of the day.

it was also written back when Dave was like, actively presenting as a cool kid and all fic written was writing him as a character that Got His Shit Together. Which in retrospect is pretty fun!

Personally? Same.

Even if a lot of the official art has them as "colorless" too they just...look white to me. Which I know isn't really saying much since they're cartoon people and it's hard to give them particular, recognizable features that would signal they're a particular ethnicity/race but it's just how I see them anyway. I guess it doesn't help they're literally white in the sense they're essentially line art and only their clothes get colored sometimes. And when I was really into Homestuck "back in the day" most of the fanart and fanfic basically depicted them as white so it just sort of solidified it. Plus...it always made sense to me that at least Dave was white because his whole "you think you're cool when you rap and all but you're really a huge dork" made the most sense if he was white. Ya know?

I don't know why anyone would feel bad about it though. You're fine OP.
