I think "Not like other girls" is going the way of "Mary Sue" with the way fandom is starting to apply it to anything and everything. Nowadays fandom thinks it means any girl who isn't stereotypically a giant girly girl, has a few slightly more masculine characteristics, or dislikes exactly one (1) feminine hobby, etc... even if she doesn't make a big deal about it. So let me guess, your friend's favorite characters are simply not the absolute girliest girls to ever girl and you think that makes them the Not Like Other Girls trope.
