Recently one of my irl friends said to me that she hates the “NOT LIKE OTHER GIRLS” trope. I didn’t said anything but I thought it was so weird because a lot of her favorite female characters fall in this category or at least have that vibe.

I don't really know what your friend really means about hating this trope or what she feels about those characters, but for me, what I hate about that as a trope is that it's just an excuse to make fun of girls that don't identify with the stereotypical female model that society shoves on them.

What is this trope? I've never heard of it before. Just curious!

A girl is 'not like other girls' because she doesn't like dresses, or doesn't wear makeup, or doesn't want to be married, or any of the stereotypical things that girls are 'supposed' to like.

And this is supposed to make her amazing and unique and special and uber-different so that all the boys swoon for her.

I think "Not like other girls" is going the way of "Mary Sue" with the way fandom is starting to apply it to anything and everything. Nowadays fandom thinks it means any girl who isn't stereotypically a giant girly girl, has a few slightly more masculine characteristics, or dislikes exactly one (1) feminine hobby, etc... even if she doesn't make a big deal about it. So let me guess, your friend's favorite characters are simply not the absolute girliest girls to ever girl and you think that makes them the Not Like Other Girls trope.
