(Anonymous) 2020-05-29 06:38 am (UTC)(link)Idk, I get what ayrt means I think, especially for characters in a tv show. There are characters from tv that I definitely don't enjoy all the canon characterizations of, while still overall liking the character. I can see why that might not count as liking them, but for something like Doctor Who, there's episodes that have takes on the characters that are way more interesting to me than others, and I do end up ignoring their characterization in episodes that weren't as interesting to me.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-29 07:31 am (UTC)(link)Stan originally comes from the Eminem song about an obsessive fan, Stan, who writes to the singer and gets angry when he doesn't hear back and kills his pregnant girlfriend and himself by driving a car with her in the trunk off a bridge. So a stan is an overly-obsessive fan and stanning is obsessive fanning. Sometimes people just use it to mean serious fan, and sometimes it is used in a sort of self-aware, deprecating way, but it is often used derisively.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-29 01:43 am (UTC)(link)amy i never had an easy time liking, i just hated how horribly self-centered she was and how the narrative supported it. but i also stopped watching new-who during matt smith's run so maybe they were better by the end of it.
