Nobody has any business policing your legal, nondestructive coping mechanisms.

Sticking ones head in the sand is avoiding all knowledge of the problem, refusing to acknowledge there is a problem, and neglecting to offer any support when support is needed and providing it is well within your ability.

Not wanting to think about the problem every hour of the day is not sticking ones head in the sand. It’s being human.

Counterpoint: OP seems to want to not engage with it at ANY point, if I read this right?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-13 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Counter-counterpoint: OP specifies not being American, and while police brutality is not solely an American problem, the bulk of the current push is towards changing the American hyper-militarized police system in specific, and there's only so much people from another country entirely actually can meaningfully engage with that.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-13 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Not AYRT but the only way that really absolves OP is if you assume that because OP is not American, OP has no American friends or acquaintances affected by this then, especially no POC friends, and sticks solely to having white internet friends of their own country

Which... probably inaccurate.

"sticks solely to having white internet friends of their own country"

This would absolve OP of nothing.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-13 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Lol I mean yeah that would be an interestingly red flag on its own but I'm just trying to point out the "counter-counterpoint" doesn't work unless you assume OP lives in a bubble.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-13 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Absolves". Jesus Christ, you're ridiculous.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-13 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

Lol, why?

Wasn't absolution the point of the comment I'm replying to? That's what I brought that up. I don't really care what OP does, I'm just pointing out the "counter-counterpoint" doesn't work in a logical sense unless AIRT was assuming OP lives in a bubble.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-13 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Seconding this. OP, as far as we know, has nothing they need to be "absolved" for. Unless not single-handedly fixing racism in America is something one requires absolution for now.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-13 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
That word choice made me roll my eyes, too.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-13 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
If the comment it was replying to wasn't attempting to do that, it wouldn't have been used. /shrug

How is it unlikely for a person from any given country in the world not to have American friends? Not everyone is capable of maintaining online friendships with people from vastly different time zones. Hell, not everyone is capable of making online friends, period.

(Anonymous) 2020-06-14 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Not OP but I barely have any friends fandom or otherwise in my own country, much less Americans - lmao

(Anonymous) 2020-06-13 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
And then there are people like me who are chronic lurkers and don't have any internet friends at all. Does that mean I get your permission to completely disengage from this subject, oh supercilious anon?
