I get it. A big part of police procedurals is the appeal of justice being done at the end of the story (or mostly done). The crime being solved efficiently is satisfying because it doesn't work that way in real life. Justice is satisfying and cathartic. We all know real cases drag out and take years and the whole process sucks balls.

CSI isn't like real crime solving either, really. SVU doesn't clear rapes in a week.


Plus, that aside, we grow to like the characters and their interactions with each other, which isn't just reliant on their profession.

This is why I used to like some of them. Specifically Criminal Minds mostly and Castle. I've gone off them myself, but that cathartic justice feeling was the draw when I did like them. Actually, come to think of it, that sort of thing might be a common thread between the more realistic stuff I liked and the fantasy/scifi stuff I like. Feel good, justice done, people saved kinds of things.
