Kids should be taught and brought up without access to technology, except for:

- Cases where disability or Special educational needs means technology is vital to their development
- IT specific education such as coding
- Some gaming or viewing time at home for very short periods but no Internet or social media.

No. Thinking specifically of a lot of recent protests and activism organized by school age kids almost entirely online, but there are other benefits.

Yeah, no.

Why?

I remember you mentioning having a kid on here. How can you look at the disturbing rise in kids killing themselves after online bullying and not agree?

Quit your fucking concern trolling. Bullying will happen regardless of online or not. Just admit you want to freely brainwash your kids and you're using this as an excuse.

Because kids killed themselves without online bullying. Because a parent gives their kids the tools to defend/protect themselves. Because the internet sucks in a lot of ways, but it also has people and images and history and information from around the world.

At my daughter's fingertips is basically everything, everywhere, anytime. I'd be stupid to deprive her of that resource; of the friends she's made online, the experiences she's had, the things she's learned.

I agree that kids should not spend more than an hour or two on the internet or playing video games per day. They need to go outside. Same with teens. It's useful for research and homework and such but it's not good when they get into fights on Twitter that lead to cyber-bullying of their classmates. Technology is a double-edged sword like that and I think all things need to be done in moderation.

See, this sort of nonsense is why I hate "Controversial Opinions" threads. Because this isn't a matter of opinion! Actual peer-reviewed studies have been done on this shit, by actual developmental psychologist, and published in actual reputable journals, and you know what? They all say you're fucking wrong! It's not opinion, you're just wrong!

AKA "I should be able to brainwash my kid how I want"

But why though? They’re gonna have to use technology eventually and not teaching them early would put them at a disadvantage.

I think you'll find that everything is technology.
