The way you ask makes a huge difference. And where. There's a lot of places where people will assume bad faith with these questions because people are so used to hearing them in bad faith, just meant to pick apart their identity.

And it's not about acting a specific way. There's so much I'd love to do but can't because people would see that and dismiss my gender because I'm clearly 'acting like a (my assigned gender at birth)' and that absolutely hurts. These people hurting me aren'tusually trans people, these are cis people who have their specific ideas on what it means to be trans and if you don't fit then you must be lying.

lol if I had a dollar for every time someone asked a trans man why they weren't getting alpha male ripped and hitting on all the ladies like every man does that, or a trans woman why they bothered to transition to a woman if they still like women, like lesbians don't exist

And like if I had a dollar for every time I heard a trans man say he knew he was a boy because he hated dolls and dresses so there was no way he could be a girl because all girls like those things, or a trans woman say she knew she was a girl because she didn't like sports and toy trucks so there was no way she could be a boy because all boys like those things... I'd have $0.

Some of what these teens are saying is a little depressing to me, especially the first one who says "oh, I don't like girly things...maybe I'm a boy?"

Ah, the Guardian, definitely not biased in their picks of who to interview :) But actually, no, I don't find it depressing to question not being a girl because you don't like girly things? After all, it is very common for people who aren't girls not to like girly things! It's also very common for girls not to, which the great thing about that is, those girls can also question and examine their gender and conclude that despite not liking girly things, they are in fact girls! And nonbinary people can use not liking girly things as a starting point to examine their gender and conclude that they're not! Isn't it beautiful that people who get both results can coexist?

Can you blame people for coming to those conclusions when most of the folks who claim to be enbies posted pics of themselves in "boy" mode and "girl" mode during non-binary visibility day. It's, like, wow, you like to wear makeup and skirts one day and flannels and scruffy hair on others. If you're female, congrats you're like a majority of women living in the Western world.

Really speaks more to societal issues than trans ones, doesn't it? Cisheteronormative patterns put soooo much pressure on everyone from literally the day they're born to conform one way or another.
