Secret makers mining thread

Because I have one

This is a weird one. If someone leaves a comment on one of my fics then I get this little niggling sense at the back of my mind telling me that it's happened. When I log on - hey presto there it is. Currently this has a success rate of 100% over a sample size of just under a hundred and I am *freaked out*. SB This sounds fucking crazy.

I always know when people are going to text me and who. I don't know the mechanics of it, but I guess our brains just pick up patterns we don't consciously recognise or something? It's wild.

Write down every time you get that feeling so you have a record that can confirm this

There is nothing more annoying than a long, regularly updated WIP that only has one or two chapters left, and then it just stops updating. Why would you do that to your readers? Argh!

Kira has always been my favorite Deep Space Nine character, followed by Jadzia. Which is weird because really Odo is the one I relate to most. Not that I don't love Odo too. But he doesn't make my top 5 favorites even though he may be the Trek character I'm most like of them all.

These days I only write quick and dirty smut with the barest semblance of plot and often "controversial" kinks.

I treasure all the comments I get, but there is this one user who always baffles me. They'll ask about what would happen after the fic, like: "Is X going to be punished? Will Y get the therapy and support needed to get over his trauma?" Usually the sort of questions that only plot-heavy and character-driven stories would get.

I always say that I leave it open to interpretation so everyone can headcanon what they want, but sometimes I really want to say: "Dude, this is just a brainless PWP ficlet I wrote in less than an hour for an anon with an X/Y rape kink. Why are you asking me about the sort of fallout that would take chapters upon chapters of careful work to portray satisfyingly? I know you have read most of my stories, do you still not get I don't do anything past 1-2 paragraphs of setting and a whole boatload of porn?"

So, someone in my fandom decided to start a, um, shall we say, "woke" kind of movement? I was surprised at first, and assumed it was part of a bigger movement aimed at fighting pedophilia.
It wasn't. Not exactly.
It was a single hashtag people could use on their posted fanfiction for the intent of burying objectionable fanfiction on a certain site. The reasoning is, that site will not ban explicit fic between a very much adult character and a child character of roughly 10 years. Apparently, the objectionable content makes some fans "feel unsafe," and also the fandom itself may have some underaged fans.
On the one hand, I fully support their right to post whatever they want on this very inclusive website. On the other hand, I don't believe there are any safe spaces in fandom unless you create your own. Also, I'm not sure what the goal is... they know they can filter out what offends them. Plus, at least one person has started to "call out" the writers of the explicit fic. Not good form IMO.
As much as that particular pairing (and other similar ones) makes me puke, I wouldn't dream of starting a movement against someone else's kink (unless it hurts someone IRL). If one kink is open season, then all kinks are open season, and I'd rather side with all kinks.
I don't think anything will actually happen, but I'm guessing some folks are going to be disappointed?

I may OTP Jadzia/Worf, but I totally shipped Jadzia/Quark too. Honestly that, along with Jazia/Lenara, were my two Jadzia ships until her romance with Worf started. And no, Bashir was never in the running for me. His creepy crushing in season 1 ruined any chance of me shipping them.

Inspired by the secret from the anon who's running out of husbandos for their mental harem:

I like to grab scenes or plot points from various fanfics, glue them together with my personal headcanons, and add a self-insert Mary Sue to entertain myself while I am in bed before falling asleep.

The problem is that lately all my favorites are feeling stale, like I've used them too much.

Long story short: I need to find myself a new fandom or too so I'll have enough brand new (to me) material for my fantasizing.

I'm extremely forgiving when it comes to fantasy compared to other genres. I want two things: complex, interesting worldbuilding that works and complex characters that make sense and feel like fleshed-out people. Give me those two things and I'll forgive you a lot of other flaws. And give me dragons and I'll probably forgive you if you don't even give me those two things.

I actually think I want the same thing from scifi that I want from fantasy. Technology and magic systems are just means to an end to me, though I probably lean towards finding magic more interesting than tech. But what I'm interested in is cultures. All these different cultures of different species and how they interact with each other. How biology vs. nurture becomes more complex when you get more than just humans. And how humanity would interact with different species and culture completely alien to us.

Sisco is my favorite Star Trek captain. But he's my favorite captain because he's flawed. He makes some awful, though understandable, decisions. His choices with the Maquis and how he brings the Romulans into the war are just objectively wrong. It makes him more interesting as a captain that he's so flawed. But fans who justify him are wrong.

The Star Wars fandom is so toxic these days. It scares me. I wish there was a place for people who love the EU and the sequels. Prequels too. I love it all. The hate is exhausting.

I say I don't like fandom debates because it feels like the other party is just ignoring everything I said, coming at me with evidence that is flimsy at best, and generally blind do the fact that something might be problematic.

But in truth, I fear it's just my basic animal self going, "Shut up and stop challenging every little thing I say, I've thought long and hard about this and you haven't (evidenced likely by the fact that you don't agree with me) and I don't need what I consider to be the unenlightened ramblings of someone who takes everything at face value and pretends nothing's off even in the face of total contradiction, implying that I'm even remotely wrong." (I don't TELL them that, of course, I just defend my points.)

S!B I thought I'd be more mature at this age.

I don't read or even enjoy Harry Potter anymore. But I still occasionally read fics. And I have this epic fantasy story that I made up in my head with myself as the main hero, and Harry Potter is one of the main fandoms that gets combined in it. I finally got rid of my Potter books after Rowling started being awful. But Potter had an important meaning for me for a long time, and I've been creating this fantasy for a long time. I'm not going to remake my fantasy just because she's turned out to be awful.

Deep Space Nine had such a better take on some of the Star Trek basics that frankly got boring. Replicators? Great for dealing with food scarcity, but identical replication can't beat real cooking. Holodecks? Of course people would make it creepy. Not to mention the idea of staying and finishing what was started. And Earth may have moved past religion, but it remaining a real and important thing for other worlds was okay on DS9 unlike TNG.

Finding something bad (and I'm talking like, Kevin Spacey, Jeffrey Epstein level bad) about a creator or someone in something I like doesn't ruin that thing for me.

I think that they should be arrested (if it's an arrest level offense), blackballed from whatever they do, and everyone should know they're a total ball of scum, but I'm still going to enjoy my movies and books that I enjoyed before regardless.

There are lots of books and films and comics I love, but the only things I've been absolutely obsessed with for years on end have all been variations on the Beauty and the Beast story. People assume I self-insert as the Beauty because I'm female, but actually I feel like the only way anyone would ever love me is if they were stuck with me for months on end, they inspired me to be a better person... and I got a magical makeover.

There's this BL manga called "The Titan's Bride" which also recently got a short episode anime adaption and it would be right up my alley in terms of size kink and everything but the way they keep alluding to potential future m-preg seriously turns me off and made me drop it in the end.

Lebowski Thor is the only kind of Thor I like. I don't like him in Ragnarok and he's is so-so in Infinity War. He seems like a jock character to me, violent and bloodthirty even after his character developement. Royalty with some kind of birthright.
sb Most people hate depressed Thor.

PS: I also don't like T'Challa and Shuri for similar reasons. They don't act like royalty, they're bratty and entitled, using their privilege for their own ends and not for the sake of their people.

I probably think too much about bodily functions when it comes to the virtual/fictional characters made real trope (like Tron: Legacy). Do they have to learn all the toddler-level hygiene stuff? Or was that part of their original programming? And if so, is Flynn kinda pervy for writing that into his world? Or is this one of those, "It's just a show I should really just relax" topics?

(Inspired by hearing that Tron 3 may or may not be back in pre-production.)
