Unahppy endings aren't the same as kinks, for one. And honestly, the world is miserable enough to get tired of misery porn ending with no one happy. If I have suffering, I want some actual payoff for the suffering because I know I'm not going to get that in real life.

It's fine if that's what you like, but that doesn't make unhappy endings bad, or writers wrong for preferring them. People who moan about someone else writing the story they wanted to write instead of the one the reader thinks they should have written are invariably assholes.

NAYRT I agree with all of this. Just because it's fanfic doesn't mean the author owes you a happy ending.

Well its a good thing that you can choose NOT to read them and I can keep on writing unhappy endings to my fics whenever I want to - and in theory we can coexist regardless :D
