I think my secret got looked over? I asked for it to be posted today specifically since I had some free time! I posted it late last night though so I feel like it probably got overlooked since it was so close to deadline time. As an adult, I like the new style of cover better than that style, but as a kid, I loved those illustrations and probably would have thought the current style was boring. I can see the flaws in the art more clearly now, when as a kid I was impressed at all the details and how realistic they looked. I think in general more kids, the audience for these books, would prefer an attempt at a good, realistic illustration even if it's flawed, than just a cover with a fancy font and some photo of a vaguely related object artfully stuck on.

As a book fan who frequently says 'The book did it better' I agree, book fans need to be more nuanced.

For instance, I really liked the film I, Robot, even though it really had very little to do with the book. I've also read The Expanse books, and there are sections in the tv series that are BETTER than the books!

It's very rare that any adaptation will get everything right. That doesn't mean they can't be enjoyed, or that they didn't get some things right (or even better). :)

Maybe others in the fandoms feel the same way? You could be the one who makes the rest feel comfortable!
Or maybe all the long fic writers just use a different platform in those fandoms?

I'm pretty much the same. I started my porny sock puppet account so I could explore my actual kinks, but these days 99% of what I publish is either just "for the lols" or out of spite against the antis.

I also have a sort of self imposed challenge where I try to write at least one story for every ship that doesn't already have one in my fandom, so most of my output involves ridiculous pairings to boot.

Speaking as a momma in her thirties, 17 is YOUNG! Let her play! I feel like there's this narrative (esp in Hollywood) that you hit your teens and then you NEED to be edgy and sexy and mature. That you should/need to project that image, and you're not 'growing up' if you don't.

Let people enjoy life without rushing into adult responsibilities and behavior, plz.



P.S. Yeah, it's also part of her brand. And frankly if she has ten year old fans, I'd prefer she didn't 'grow up' quite so fast. They look up to her, and there is absolutely no reason ten year olds should be encouraged to take on adulthood.

I have been 'fandom attacked' on tumblr way more than I ever have been on Twitter.

Here's just one example (even though you didn't ask lol): One time I made a post asking who had what merchandise from within the fandom and I got 10 anons telling me to [various harmful things] because I wasn't thinking of people who couldn't afford stuff and they count as fans too. And also the reblogs with nasty comments.

Everyone's experiences are different, though, I know.
