Re: 149

Right. My point was, every candidate misspoke at some point during the campaigns.

Re: 149

[identity profile] evil-laugher.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hers was much more than "misspeaking", though, and that's why it was made fun of. Obama didn't mean to say he had visited 57 states, but Palin did mean to say that she had foreign policy experience based on people on a single Alaskan island being able to see Russia, and who knows what the "head space" shit meant. She was BSing and it wasn't working.

Re: 149

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly don't think Obama really has that much experience either. More than Palin, but at least she isn't going to be leading our country.

Re: 149

[identity profile] evil-laugher.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
But he said nothing on the same fuck-up-BS level as Palin in that interview... Kind of my point. 57 doesn't really compare.

Re: 149

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, he's got four years of constant spotlight, give him some time.

Re: 149

[identity profile] evil-laugher.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
lol that's the most you can say in response.

Re: 149

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe because I don't particularly feel the need to debate an election that's already been decided for a month now?

Re: 149

[identity profile] evil-laugher.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha, that's funny. You started off trying to argue something, but don't like it when they disagree back. Once you're cornered out of it, tell the other person to stop trying to debate you! If you don't want a DEBATE, don't go into a public forum and compare Obama's 57 flub to Palin's major fuck-up like they're somehow equal, then continue trying to ARGUE somehow, somehow, that Obama is worse. "but lol remember what Obama said that one time XD" "Uhhh, that doesn't even compare." "But Obama has no foreign policy experience." "Think what you want, but nothing he said was ever that bad." "Oh, but he MIGHT say something as bad."

Re: 149

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
My original argument wasn't about the election, it was "everyone says stupid things sometimes". It wasn't mean to be a huge political debate about someone who's already won, but if you want to have a stupid argument on a freaking fandom community, then fine.

The only reason I think Obama is any worse is he is in control of the government. Seriously, what does the vice president REALLY do? How would Palin really be able to screw up the country? Does anyone even know what Cheney did? "Oh, well, he shot a guy!"

But right now we have a man with almost no experience in control of the country when we're in the middle of two wars and a financial crisis. Forget Russia, I'm worried about OUR country. How is he seriously going to make everything better? Has he given us a single plan? Has he given us ANYTHING? Has anyone?

Frankly, I didn't like McCain, either. Our choices were horrible this time around. No matter who won, we were screwed. With Obama we're screwed because his idea of "fixing" things is taxing people more and dragging troops out and leaving everything in a mess.

But really, does it matter? No,he's won. You've won. He can do whatever he wants, but excuse me if I'm not worshiping at his altar or daring to say "everyone mispeaks sometimes".

Honestly, I don't know why I even care what you people think. Even if I wanted to spend hours of my day debating, the election already happened. Even if you win the debate, so what? Does it manner?

Re: 149

[identity profile] evil-laugher.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Except what Palin said was much worse than "those stupid things that everyone says sometimes." MUCH worse. This is actually the first time I have ever seen anyone try to legitimately compare the two. Most people at this point have given up on pretending that Palin wasn't a joke.

I don't care what you thing about Obama. I didn't ask you. I don't care what you think about any of the candidates. The problem is you trying to act innocent and go, "Tee hee hee, but didn't Obama say that one thing?" like it's at all comparable, STILL trying to spin it a month after it's over, then whine when someone disagrees with you. "omgggg stop debating with me T_T" The sad intent to spin is pretty damn obvious when your immediate response to being corrected is to whine about Obama, when it wasn't even relevant. You can't even whine about what he HAS said, so you whine about what he MIGHT say? Seriously? But omgggg stop arguing with me! I'm so innocent! My original comment was just to clear up any misconception of what Obama had meant, and YOU started arguing in response.

If the McCain/Palin won, the obvious problem was McCain's age and past health problems, so she very well could become President. Yes, the Vice President actually has a point in being there!

Does anyone even know what Cheney did?
OMG seriously?! People hate Cheney more than the President, he even has a lower popularity rate, because of the sketchy, very real things he has done besides shooting a friend in the face. Palin actually said she wanted the same degree of power Cheney has, and that terrified people. Congress is also going to make it so that Biden has less power among them than Cheney had forced through. I'm getting the impression that YOU don't know what Cheney has done.

Please allow anonymous to help clarify why you look a bit silly in this argument.

Palin said that she had foreign policy experience because Alaska was near Russia. The quote has been cited on other pages of this post. It happened, and it's what Tina Fey's Palin personality was based on with that quote.

Yes, Obama misspoke. We acknowledge that. Palin's "hiccup" was much greater than a misspoken word, however. Palin said she had foreign policy experience by virtue of proximity.

If Obama, in an interview, had said, "Well, as a member of the Senate, I've worked with senators from all over the United States, and that's kind of like being a president," then that would be on the same level as Palin's quote. However, he didn't. And your response to anyone bringing up this quote is to say WELL OBAMA HAS NO EXPERIENCE! Can you please clarify how that's relevant to the argument at hand? No one was arguing about his experience. They were talking about bad quotes and how Palin's was much, much worse than any slip-ups Obama might have made.

By the way, yes, Obama has given us an outline of a plan that would create 2.5 million jobs, very similar to the way the New Deal did during the depression. Whether you think it'll work is beside the point, because your question was "Has he given us a single plan?" and the answer is "He's given multiple, actually, I'm sorry you weren't paying attention."

I'm not trying to debate either; I'm just hoping to make it clear why you're not exactly making yourself look great in this case. For future reference.

I think the real problem wasn't lack of experience but lack of interest in ever gaining that experience. That's what hit me over the head again and again. Obama really hungers for information and liked to surround himself with smart people who could keep him informed and challenged, but Palin comes from the POV that she already knows everything she needs to and really isn't all that curious to find out more. She didn't value her advisers or education.

The idea of governing based on faith rather than perception scared the hell out of me. It's like driving at night with the headlights off because you're sure you know where you are and you are convinced you are a "great driver".

There's a difference between misspeaking and stressing that you're ready to be vice-President because Russia is close to Alaska and that gives you some semblance of foreign policy experience.

Re: 149

[identity profile] haleysings.livejournal.com 2008-12-12 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Like Obama has foreign policy experience? I'm not saying Palin is some sort of genius, I just don't think Obama is, either. Charismatic, undoubtedly, a very nice guy, sure, but not experienced.

Obama didn't exactly claim to have foreign policy experience in such an idiotic way, that's all I'm saying.

Enjoy your sour grapes, btw

Oh sure, I'll agree there.

I don't really have sour grapes. I honestly don't really care, I was just making a humorous observation that everyone misspeaks sometimes. My point wasn't to start a debate after the fact.
