So who else is an untrustworthy multishipper? :D

It doesn't always happen in every fandom I'm in but I usually find that I end up shipping favorite character/s with several others (mostly because of the joys of having endless fics to read lol).
Naruto was the one that got me started (mostly shipping Naruto and Gaara with a majority of the main teams and with each other), and currently I'm enjoying Star Treks McSpirk with any combination or all three of Kirk, Spock and Dr McCoy.

It depends on the fandom for me. Some fandoms I OTP, some fandoms I multiship, and some fandoms I do both.

Same. It's actually rare for me to ship one person in more than one pairing, but it has happened. I've even gotten an OT3 or two.

This is me. Between my two current fandoms, I'm both a diehard OTPer (fandom A) and a multishipper (fandom B). There's no discrepancy there? Sometimes there's a pairing that gets me more than any others and I become loyal to it, and sometimes there's a specific character that I like to explore several different dynamics with, even if some I like more than others. Idk. I don't think OTPs and multishipping are intrinsically at odds.

That said, in fandom A, where I have a diehard OTP, it is certainly much more common to multiship (including with the two characters of my OTP), and I have caught flak from multishippers for "being boring" or "leaving character C or D (or both) out", which is equally stupid.

I don't understand why people can't just leave other people alone. For god's sake your preferences don't have to be "correct" and the people who don't agree with them are not wrong.

It's very, very rare for me because the number of characters that I want to ship with anyone is so small. So to have even 3 of them in a single story - really unusual.

I'm someone with very few ships as well, and sometimes I feel frustrated by how easily most people seem to ship. Not because they're doing something wrong (they're not), but because I don't get it, and I feel at odds with most of fandom.

The number of people who ship multiple ships in almost every fictional text they consume always shocks me. I've shipped maybe thirty pairings in my entire life (I'm mid thirties), and I've only felt like reading fic for maybe a dozen.

Like in 99% of the fandoms I am in, I have one character that I ship with everyone. A short list would be Steve Rogers, Loki, John Watson, Stiles Stilinski, Spike, Charles Xavier, and Castiel.

I'm more of a shipper, with odd little blips - Ie I ship McDanno, but could see a connection between Danno and Harry. - The fics I read with that ship tend to be Harry helping Danno see his OTP is Steve, but have this interlude whilst you get there.

I ship Steve/Tony - but can see connection with Steve/Bucky and if the story premise is interesting, I'll read it.

Buddie is only ever that pairing

and Rupert Graves' Lestrade - I just want stories about how awesome he is, and don't really care about shipping at all.

I get this, and there are characters that I feel that way about. But at the same time, with those characters, I also want to read about them having satisfying emotional relationships and/or really good sex, so I end up reading shippy fic with them anyway.

Danno and Harry

That honestly never occurred to me, but I could see how it could be interesting. Hmm.

There's actually one fic that had me shipping Steve and Mary of all things, still not sure what happened there.

Me either. I don't ship anything on Criminal Minds, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, or Star Wars:Rebels or Clone Wars

Some fandoms do not lend themselves well to shipping. I love Monty Python but who ships Monty Python characters??

ME

I have a few favourites, it's true. But I love exploring different ways people might fit together.

i multiship very, very rarely, since in all honesty: when i LOVE a ship i am all in with it, i don't want to split them up, i don't want to see them with others, i just want to read about them being together and i won't care for anything else(i've tried reading other ships before now in fandom, i didn't like it, so i don't).

multishipping for me only comes about bc i really am just not all that invested or enamored with who a character ends up with, thus i can imagine different scenarios and they're all enjoyable. but neither do i adore those ships like i do my otp's. it's just how i work.

Lol. I ship a wide and wild variety of things everywhere I go. I think OP might not realize that when someone like me goes for a fic (either reading or writing), we recognize that not all of our mutually exclusive ships are going to happen in that one fic. That we can read A/B and A/C and A/D all in one day, but we focus on each one separately.

Hermione is my fandom bicycle!!!

lol I mean really, each ship can be enjoyed in its own space. Then when I tire of one, I go on to the next. It's fucking great! And I do this across fandoms (with different characters).

*raises hand like Hermione in the first Potions class*

Usually I have a favorite character in any fandom and I will read (and maybe write) them paired with any other characters that I think they would be interesting with. They don't have to be alive in canon or even from the same fandom - AU and go!

Harry Potter/Regulus Black (Harry Potter),
Lana Lang/Lex Luthor/Dean Winchester{but sort of Jason Teague}(Smallvile/Supernatural),
Brian O'Connor/Johnny Utah (The Fast and The Furious/Point Break),
Methos/Obi-Wan Kenobi (Highlander/Star Wars), yeah, read those.

I've written at least seven different pairings or threesomes for my favorite in one fandom. I've also written a foursome in another fandom.

I don't actually truly multi-ship often, but I will read most fics if the premise is interesting and I trust the author even if its not my ship, and there are some ships I just like to read, but wouldn't actually want in canon at all.

Re: Inspired by 5

It depends. In general, I definitely have more OTPs that I'm super invested in and dislike the idea of either of them with anyone else, but there are still plenty of cases where I'll ship two opposing ships and go back and forth between which I prefer at any given time. I might have one type or the other in a particular fandom, or I might have both, where I have the hardcore OTP, and then some more flexible ships involving other characters.

I will say, though, that I find fandoms where I have at least one OTP to be more fun than ones where I'm less set on a specific pairing, because being super passionate and invested in something is kind of the whole point of fandom to me (and, IMO, it's hard to get super passionate about/invested in either A/B or B/C when you like both).
