Food

(Anonymous) 2020-07-21 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I have no energy so I can't make a sandwich or cook
I don't think there's anything in the house that's just ready to eat
I don't trust myself to drive to the corner store because, as previously mentioned, I have no energy
I can't get UberEats because my family is like philosophically opposed to them and their v. shady business practices and they'd judge me

but

I haven't eaten anything today but 1/8th of a cantaloupe and 1 orange
Any suggestions?

Can you just eat some bread to get some energy to go to the corner store?

mmmmm... I don't like the bread we have... but! Mashed potato! Salt! Carbs! Very easy! That might work :)

SA - hey thanks, I had some potato and perked up a bit, and then I remembered I was almost out of antidepressants! So I went and got a refill and something to eat :)
And the pharmacist told me that I can take the meds that are making me sleepy in the evening rather than the morning, which was a relief.

Glad the potatoes helped. Sometimes just a little something is enough to get you to be able to where you need to be. Glad you got some good advice from the pharmacist.

Honestly? When I'm in this mood I'll just grab a slice or chunk of bread and call it a day.

What do you have in the house? Because often there's something, but it might not look like a traditional meal, you know? My only other suggestion is in the future, write your shopping list to include a bunch of ready to eat, relatively healthy foods, plus some emergency convenience foods.

Relatively healthy quick foods: hummus, baby carrots, celery or other cut-up veggies, tortillas and shredded cheese so you can make quesadillas, canned refried beans and a jar of salsa so you can make bean burritos too, peanut butter, an extra loaf of bread to throw in the freezer for emergencies, crackers and cheese/cold cuts to make yourself a mini charcuterie board, pepperoni and salami (which keep for longer), apples, frozen edamame, frozen stir-fry kits (that include veggies and sauce), frozen vegetables that can be tossed in the microwave and steamed, rice, canned beans (not as cheap as dried, but faster!) and chickpeas, dried fruit, yogurt cups, canned tuna and salmon, tuna in a pouch that's already flavored

Emergency convenience foods: frozen pre-cooked chicken products, frozen fish sticks, frozen Chinese dumplings (especially if you have access to an Asian grocery), ramen in a cup that just needs boiling water or microwave, canned soups/stews, Chef Boy Ardee, boxed mac and cheese, frozen TV dinners/pizza,

In the future, you could order from a place that has their own in-house delivery instead of using UberEats or a similar service.

My eternal suggestion: cheese.
