So, I've been getting cluster allergy shots, meaning 3 sets of shots each Monday to work up to maintenance level faster. My copay for the regular, single shots was 8 dollars. I was told when I started these that my copay was going to be 38. Fine.

So today I was told I had a balance on my account, and when I asked why, I found out that my insurance was now saying that the copay is 50 dollars.

I spent 2 hours on the phone with my insurance. It looks like it boils down to my allergy place has been billing these shots as an office visit, which is always a $50 copay, even though these are shots, not office visits. My insurance company can find no record of anyone being told a 38 dollar copay for anything.

By the time I got off my phone it was 5, so too late to call my allergy place. Going to have to call them tomorrow.

On top of that, I put through what I thought was a simple refill request for my thyroid med. Only for my doctor to reject it with no explanation. Was going to call them, also didn't get to it before 5 and will have to do it tomorrow.

Not impressed with my medical community today.

If we end up with US style healthcare in my country I am legit thinking of just killing myself. As someone with health history, US healthcare scares me so bad.

The funny thing is, today it wasn't the health insurance that was the problem for me. Today it was my doctor's offices that screwed up.

Not that I don't agree with you. Our system is messed up to the core and needs to be changed.

Yeah, I hear you. I'm a relatively healthy person and the American healthcare system is still a gigantic pain in the ass. I'm terrified that one day I'll get seriously ill or into an accident and it'll cost thousands and thousands of dollars I don't have.

Not arguing that they're not wrong (especially because you were told one thing and are being charged another, which is not okay), but what is the difference between an office visit and a shot visit? Do you not go to the office to get the shot?

Shot isn't a visit, it is a treatment. Not sure how exactly it works. But the previous copay for the single shots was 8, and they were billed differently. They were billed as the treatment (the insurance lady read off to me exactly what it was, but cant remember it now), not as the visit. This is just 3 shots instead of 1.

Ah, so it's just the terminology they use of why you're there. That's weird then, maybe someone new screwed up the data entry? Hopefully you get it all sorted out!
