Part of me is like "god, same, I hate romance in anything, less of it, all of it, please" and part of me is just like ... well, suck it up, OP.

Straight people are in the vast, vast majority, of course fictional romances will reflect that.

It's boring as fuck, but understandable.

Just like elves and dragons and dinosaurs exist--

What they mean is that most people are straight, so they're going to prefer romances that are like their own. It's not complicated.

NAYRT but it's generally unclear to me why I, as a consumer of media, should give one single shit what is profitable for media and production companies, as opposed to what I personally want to see. I can generally track the internal calculus of companies and understand why they make the decisions that they do. But I don't understand the part where this is supposed to matter to me and I'm supposed to just mutely accept it.

"Straights are the vast, vast majority so deal with it"

Platonic (or otherwise non-romantic) friendships are the vast, vast majority of relationships, but you don't see them in everything. Why does the romantic minority not have to "suck it up" but the queer minority does?

You shouldn't be having to suck it up and have all this romance YOU don't want, and neither should OP.

friendships are the vast, vast majority of relationships, but you don't see them in everything.

Um, yeah, I do see them in everything. What fiction are you watching?

Straight people may be in the majority, but they're definitely vastly overrepresented in fiction.

Because media is generally an accurate reflection of reality?

This is why I've never been angry that I don't see more ace representation in media. Would I like to see more ace rep? Of course. But I'm 1% of the population; of course my sexuality doesn't get much rep. If it eventually gets 1% rep, I'll be like...fair.

I know, but...Vigilante action heroes are probably 1% or less of the population, and yet...
