What they mean is that most people are straight, so they're going to prefer romances that are like their own. It's not complicated.

NAYRT but it's generally unclear to me why I, as a consumer of media, should give one single shit what is profitable for media and production companies, as opposed to what I personally want to see. I can generally track the internal calculus of companies and understand why they make the decisions that they do. But I don't understand the part where this is supposed to matter to me and I'm supposed to just mutely accept it.
