Engagement party question for Americans

I need to write an engagement party scene and it has to convey certain things about the relationship of the couple.

The couple are rushing into an engagem Cab anyone suggest a setting that is typically something

How would you handle a time jump in a fic?

There's one in canon of about 5 years and I don't know how to address that in fic. Just a new chapter and put the date on it? Are people expecting to know what happened in between? Do I start a new story and turn it into a series?

I thought it was sloppy writing in canon but I don't feel like I can write five years worth of events to fill it.

What is everyone doing this weekend?

We are having a small birthday party for my sisters. It is just going to be family. I will be attempting to make a swiss roll and I can't wait to give them my gifts. Other than that, not doing much.

So, I've gotten a short term (2 weeks or so) job, so I'll be prepping for that. Going to try to go to bed early and wake up at a normal hour so I'm ready to wake up early on Monday.

Think I'll probably watch the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy.

Hope you have a really amazing time with your family!

I'm leaving my city for the first time since March. We're not leaving Scotland, just going to stay somewhere near Loch Ness for a few days. My husband needed to get away from working from home all the time and I'm not sleeping well at all, probably due to not really changing my routine for most of the year. We're going to be self-catering and mostly doing outdoor activities like walks/hikes. I know we're allowed to do this stuff now, but you want to be responsible doing it. I weighed it up for a long time when my husband suggested it. Normally at this time of year we'd be going somewhere with sun, sights and beaches but felt that wasn't worth the risk.

I hope you enjoy the party!

I'll be doing humdrum chores and errands like dishes, laundry, grocery shopping, and cleaning, and also make some more masks. Hopefully gonna meet up with my aunt for a masked, socially distanced stroll for the first time since February.

Also drooling over the online listings for the local big native plant sale; I'm glad at least one of the fall plant sales in my area (there are three that I know of, the native plant one, the big botanical garden one, and the exotic/tropical fruit one) went online instead of being outright cancelled. Can't place orders until September but I will be ready, because they capped the number of orders and I don't want to miss out.

Will be plotting September's goals. The best thing I've done for combating depression is writing out a single goal for each day of each month. Having a calendar hanging above my computer filled with little achievement check boxes has done wonders.

Staying indoors and trying to stay cool. I have multiple MST3K movies on my DVR so I'll be watching a couple of them a day. Maybe I'll go out if the smoke lets up and grab a boba tea or Starbucks. I think I'll do my nails too. Kinda quiet weekend.

Sleep is my main priority, I haven't gotten enough the past several days and just feel blah. So for now I'm just lying around and watching TV and hopefully can get a decent amount of sleep tonight.

Tomorrow I will hopefully be able to finally catch up on some work stuff I'm behind on, and I want to do some reading. Might try to get some writing done as well since I've had some new ideas for stuff over the past few days.

There's always cleaning to be done, too, and I might try baking something.

I've gotten invited to a (horseback) trail ride tomorrow! Easy to keep physical distancing but still have some social time with friends. Also my horse is awesome. :)

#1 with a bullet: blogs. Bring em back. Both individual blogs where people would just write interesting things, and blog-y daily journalism sites. And robust, well-moderated comment sections for both. Interesting, weird, arcane shit not ruled by SEO algorithms.

Other general requests - break up the monopolistic tech companies. And find easy, powerful ways for me personally to find and engage with people who have, not just similar interests, but similar mindsets to me without having to wade through scads and scads of people who aren't interesting. Make recommendation algorithms that are actually functional. And ban idiots from the Internet.

If my country upgraded the network and I could watch things without waiting for them to buffer. I went to another country over a decade ago and it was faster than this. Come onnnnnnn.

If mine actually stayed connected and wasn't so slow. Also if it was treated like a utility rather than a luxury.

As for things other than basic access, I want forums back with anon posting options. Forums, because with a narrower focus and some moderation they don't make wank quite as easy as the free-for-all, antis and stans in the same tags bloodbath as tumblr and other social media. Also so long as they can be archived and their contents backed up, they are more searchable than tumblr which is designed to show you popular stuff no matter what you're actually searching for.

And I like anon options not to troll, but because I have social anxiety and paranoia even online and want to limit my online presence.

And for the internet equivalent of "and also I'd like a pony," banning the chump in chief and his lickspittles would be lovely.

Anon above me touched on it, but break up monopolies. I feel like the Internet used to have a bunch of unique little free-range sites, and now everything feels like it's owned by the same four or five big companies. Like... I'm having trouble describing it, but you used to just be able to come across weird little sites on the old icanhas.cheezburger.com/ or iwastesomuchtime.com, and now it's all very streamlined. (Can I blame Gawker Media? I'll blame Gawker Media. And Facebook. And Google.)
