117. I hate that picture. That pose just seems entirely unlike her, it really bothers me.

139. Because wanting to hit one or two people of the opposite sex is not enough to make you bi, because bisexuality means you like sex with both sexes equally and is understandably rarer than either heterosexuality and homosexuality, and sensible people realize this and do not count an exception to the rule as enough to make them bisexual?

148. I can't understand why his death upset so many people. I mean, fuck. He had time to make a big dying speech. We saw him lifted off to a heaven that wasn't supposed to exist. I just... Sigh.

152. I keep seeing secrets like this and I truly feel that Utena flew over my head. Was I the only one laughing at Akio and cowbell and evil lesbians and etc?

163. I'm glad I rolled on Moon Guard. Looking at secrets like this makes me even gladder that I decided casual gaming was definitely for me. Getting too involved in server drama has fucked up 2 different servers for me, and a server like Moon Guard where you can easily get quick-hit RP and don't need to really know anyone is just fantastic.

168. This secret doesn't fucking deserve to be by Luffy's picture.

175. Quinton Flynn, Yuri Lowenthal, Johnny Yong Bosch and Crispin Freeman are great, but they're also, you know, in EVERYTHING.

I love how many dubious redheads Quinton Flynn gets cast as. It's quite amusing.

175: Is that really any different than Japanese shows, though? Maybe it's just the shows I watch, but certain actors seem to keep popping up everwhere I look.

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Not in mine, I don't think I've ever found repeated voice actors in the shows I watch.. then again, maybe I wasn't paying enough attention.

[identity profile] aquadyne.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's not just you. I love my seiyuu, but is usually is the same ones, albeit a larger number of them.

[identity profile] revulo.livejournal.com 2008-12-18 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes me want to watch Utena again. Because that's all I got out of it the first time I watched it, too.

re: bisexuality

[identity profile] 3goodtimes.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
because bisexuality means you like sex with both sexes equally

Wrong.

"Bisexuality refers to sexual behavior with or physical attraction to people of both genders (male and female), or a bisexual orientation." (wiki)

There are no number limits on bisexuality. Some bisexuals are primarily attracted to women, but find men that are rare exceptions (and vice versa). Your answer is precisely the reason the original poster is probably upset about the tendancy to discard bisexuality and call it an exception. There is a real lack of understanding about the orientation in both the straight and gay community.

I'm not saying those secret makers can't define their own sexualities--that's not my place. If they identify as gay or straight, more power to them. But I understand where the OP was coming from when he or she expressed some frustration on the matter.

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I never called bisexuality an exception, I only held it to it's definition - if you would like to have sex with both men and women, you are bisexual. Why is that wrong? Isn't it much more productive to assume that that is so rather than to say that as soon as you have a crush on a girl, you're automatically bisexual? That's ridiculous. Everybody is a little bit bi, that doesn't mean that everybody gets to claim the bi label (and everything that comes with it).

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] 3goodtimes.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I pretty much agree with you. I was more referring to the idea that bisexuality has to be an equal attraction to both sexes. That's what upset me about the original comment.

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I think it has to be roughly equal. A couple crushes or sexual encounters does not a bisexual person make. I think bisexuality is as much a pattern as homosexual and heterosexuality, and as with all things you're going to have some outliers, but that doesn't change the overall pattern.

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
So... I'm not allowed to have a sexuality until I've had sex, then?

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] bwhahahabeck.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
A couple crushes or sexual encounters does not a bisexual person make.

I know quite a few "bisexual" girls who have had a few crushes and few sexual encounters, but are only are involved in relationships with men time after time after time. I think what [livejournal.com profile] paperclipchains is trying to say is that true bisexuals give either gender the same chance and are involved with both.

Re: bisexuality

(Anonymous) 2008-12-19 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Way to totally disregard the fact that the dating pool for women is about ten times smaller than it is for men. In an ideal world, maybe they'd be having totally balanced relationships with both genders, but there's still a huge societal bias towards heterosexuality.

What it comes down to: They're sexually attracted to and have had sexual encounters with people of both genders, and identify as bisexual? They're pretty goddamn bisexual. How you want to define them on the basis of their relationship history is irrelevant.

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] bwhahahabeck.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
You missed the point--I'm talking about bisexual girls who have had the opportunity to date both sexes and only go for the male half, because it is more comfortable/accepted/or maybe they're not really, truly bisexual.

Then again, I come from a high school where bisexuality is as much of a fad as leggings. Girls like girls in order to appear edgy or cool yet when faced with the opportunity, they completely freak out.

I never suggested that? I said that what you call your sexuality depends on patterns of behaviour and attraction.

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] sinstralpride.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Hate to stick my nose into someone else's discussion, but I have to disagree with your belief that to be bisexual your attraction to men and women must be roughly equal. I am bisexual and I would say that I am attracted to men 75% and women 25%. I couldn't tell you if I just have higher standards for women or what, but that's how things are for me. It also seems to be pretty common with my bisexual friends as well, so the idea of it being an outlier seems off to me. I've dated and had sex with both genders, I can't say that I have a preference for one or the other, but I find myself attracted to women less frequently. No just one or two though. I'm consistently attracted to women of my "type" and even though it is less often than I'm attracted to men I am still bisexual.

There seem to be a lot of misconceptions, prejudices, and general dislike of bisexuality [I'm not saying you're prejudiced or anything] and I like to give my side of the story so people have more info to work with.

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
If it's an outlier then it wouldn't tally up to 25/75 at all though, would it?

I'm sort of sticking my foot in my mouth here, but it's quite possible that I need to examine my misconceptions and learn to shut up about it until I do. Right now I'm approaching it from the perspective that many people who are still otherwise straight or gay have crushes or attraction to people of the "wrong" sex for them, but that's not enough to make a person bi because if it was, then everyone would be bi and we would have no use for the word. Does that make sense?

Re: bisexuality

Jesus christ, that is the most offensive thing I've heard today. You really need to get educated about sexuality.

I like how you attack someone without even trying to see their point or talking to them about it. To me THAT is much more offensive than anything [livejournal.com profile] paperclipchains said. There is this thing... its called "civil discourse." You might wanna look into it.

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Out of curiousity, would 40/60 count as roughly equal? Or 75/25? Where do you draw the line?

Re: bisexality

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I guess they both would. I don't see what the purpose is in drawing a line or taking it only by percentages.

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] 3goodtimes.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I still think you're over-simplifying. No, a couple crushes doesn't really indicate much. But how many sexual encounters do you think a person has to have to be bisexual? In my opinion, they don't have to have any.

Sexuality isn't just about sex, it's about desire. It's about what's going on with the body and the brain.

I know we aren't going to agree on this, but that's just my opinion on the issue.

Re: bisexuality

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
You're right, I am over-simplifying and it does have to do what goes on with the body and the brain.

All that I mean to say is that being attracted to someone of the opposite sex on a rare occasion isn't enough to make you bisexual (such as all the "I'm a straight girl but I'd hit it" secrets).

(Anonymous) 2008-12-19 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they're in everything because they ARE great. Better a ubiquitous VA who does a damn good job than an unknown who gets cast in a major role and fucks it six ways from Sunday *cough*Wallflower*cough*

And IMHO? Quinton was better in Metal Gear Solid 2/4 than in most anything else he's done. *shrug*

[identity profile] paperclipchains.livejournal.com 2008-12-19 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
They are great, yeah, but there are other really good VAs out there who need and deserve more work, and have you noticed that they're all male?

I liked him best in La Pucelle, but I'm incredibly biased because I love his character.
