I didn't realize that The Untamed would be considered an idol drama. You have every right to be frustrated, of course. But I remember the secret you're quoting and it seems unkind to denigrate what looked to me like someone's genuine, heartfelt enjoyment of a show.

It's not an idol drama and it actually has fairly solid writing, considering it's based on a novel with a decent plot, even though censorship messed up a lot of the grey/grey morality.

I didn't think it was, based on my limited understanding of what an idol drama is. Some of the cast were formerly in bands, if that's what the anon I was referring to meant. But the "like watching the earth fall in love with the sky" is a direct quote from a recent secret made by someone who enjoyed The Untamed and was surprised by how much it moved them, so I was a little uncertain what the anon was trying to say.

What does the source material have to do with whether or not the adaptation is an idol drama? And the source material is a Chinese web novel with a ridiculous plot plagued with plagiarism controversies and the most laughable title I've heard of in years. The adaptation has solid writing if you think plopping a 30-episode flashback arc into the show after like the 3rd episode is great for structure. It's almost they figured 99% of the people watching were teenage girls living under CCP's censorship desperate for BL content who already knew the story so why bother trying.

I never said it had anything to do with each other, no need to be so aggressive over your lack of reading comprehension. Idol drama is one point, plot is another. And it's not an idol drama.
At the same time, unlike another novel that got turned into a series, the plagiarism controversy was mainly down to a hate campaign by people who didn't like the author and most of the allegedly plagiarized authors supported her, actually. The plot is fairly solid in comparison to other shows(western included, btw.), even though it did have pacing issues in the show itself, that I agree with.
And if you think the novel title is ridiculous you clearly haven't been around Chinese webnovels a lot because that title is really, really tame and low-key as far as CN webnovel titles go.

You're allowed not to like it, but your hipster hateboner is pretty silly.

While it's really easy to dismiss stuff as being only for teenage girls, the series had 8 billion views for its company and had a major economic impact. That's not just teenage girls.

I am also not a teenage girl, had never heard of the novel prior to watching the show, and I'm not a big consumer of m/m media. Please consider re-examining some of those prejudices and preconceived notions.

Right? This is one of the most successful CN dramas of the recent years with a LOT of watchers from all sorts of groups, trying to pretend it's just desperate teen fujoshi who don't know better is such a dumb take.
