Huh. People do this? Devour fanworks and then go "lol, it's not like those are REAL hobbies"? Or they just participate in discussion and don't venture out into the fanwork areas? Because the former seems kind of stupid to me.

thankfully fiction is totally distinct from reality, and everyone who watches profiling shows is like you and knows that profiling doesn't work, and feeding the impression that the police have literal superpowers that they use to defend innocent people (mostly white women) from an unending, unrelenting horde of active serial killers is totally fine

I hated idol dramas (of all flavors, but particularly the come-lately rash of Chinese ones) when I was growing up and everyone in school loved them, and now I feel like I'm being cosmically pranked because they are somehow the fandom flavor of the year. I can't stand how, with very few exceptions, they always seem to go all-in on attractive actors and glossy production values at the expense of writing and acting. If there is the slimmest opportunity to go for cheap drama, these shows will go for it, and yet I have to see people on FS of all places unironically extoll their virtues with praises like "amazing eye-acting" and "like watching the earth fall in love with the sky".

The above is a secret I've abstained from making for almost a year now, but I really don't understand how we got here.

In terms of real life... yeah it was quick. But from a TV point of view, at least they didn't just forget about it after one or two episodes. It was a good part of that plot for about half a season (?), then referenced a number of times over the next four in varying degrees. Better than most TV shows would do.
