If You Could Only Recommend One Book, Which One Would It Be?

(Anonymous) 2020-09-01 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no! All the books in the world have suddenly burst into flames... except miraculously one of your own choosing! Which book do you feel is most worthy of saving for mankind?

Those are very different questions!!!!!

Gotta say, the bible is one hell of a storybook.

DA

The social repercussions of every book except the Bible bursting into flames might not be worth saving it though. Imagine all the incredibly shitty people that would feel empowered by that and use it as an excuse to do even shittier things. (I don't mean "Christians in general," I mean extremists here)

Sorry, you lost me at "social repercussions".

K, nvm then. Found your answer interesting as a hypothetical but I guess it's a dead end.

What if it was an audiotape of The Bible read in a condescending voice by a 14-year-old atheist?

(Anonymous) 2020-09-01 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be an even more interesting hypothetic situation imo. Who is this mystery child Bible reader? A prophet? Would people try to find the voice match? Imagine the results!

Would buy The Judges single if they put some oomph into it.

I think the bible is the least worthy of saving.

All books burn... except Alice's Adventures In Wonderland. Imagine such a bizarre book leading the next epoch of mankind. What was once merely a fun tale for children is now the oldest religious text on record. Imagine, civilization built around and upon the teachings of the great prophet Lewis Carroll. Lmfao.

Classrooms in the year 3000 interpreting the great religious meaning of the Caterpillar. Cults form around the obviously divine Queen of Hearts and predict her bloody return. Others await Alice. Some claim we were already in Wonderland all along...

I thought about that actually, but it is debatable whether it could count as one book.

A first aid handbook or medical textbook or something like that! Maybe not the most fun answer, and books like that have their flaws, but assuming digital text doesn't survive either, I think I'd want something with as much medical information as possible.

I would probably go for an unabridged English dictionary.
