Yeah, from what I've seen, they mean it as "I am empathetic" but tbh, I'm not a fan of it either. Number one, you have to be careful about labels, because as soon as you slap one on yourself, you have to start living up to it. Number two, some of these people definitely do not live up to the label. Either they're putting on a show and love the attention, or they really do wear themselves out and act like emotional martyrs or something, to the point where they don't have any empathy reserved for those who truly need it. (This is not to knock people who run out of empathy, because we all get exhausted sometimes and lose patience with stuff that registers as small on our radar. It just goes back to living up to labels.)

YES. I don't want to be vicious about it but some of the people I see throwing around this label are people I know personally and... nah. They're not sociopaths, but they're not super special empathetic nurturers, either. They're people who believe that they themselves are deserving of more than the usual amount of empathy for all their problems, though...
